Just Had A Spam SMS From 85233
I've just been sent a spam text from 85233 advertising ring tones and asking me to reply e.c.t.
What are the chances of this text that I just received costing me money. You hear about reserve premium rate texts all the time, i'm on contract so I can't really check my credit to find out. |

Text the word "STOP" to the number that you recived the message from and this will remove you from anymore txts from this company. This should not cost you anything.
Hope this helps. BIGDOGUK |

Yeah I had the same from 85233 earlier and I hardly ever get spam SMS. I don't think it took any money off though I can't be sure to be honest.

A company can only charge you with your permission. They get that permission from various means though, usually the small print when you buy ringtones, sign up to services on the internet an dprovide your number etc etc. One other trick, which it sounds like this is, is to send you an initial free ringtone, then charge you for, say, three a week from then on. If you don't reply to those ones though, you're not giving them permission to text you and they can't send you anything chargable.

Hi, I got these messages in june and july. I got 2 every time never just one and each one cost me just under £1.50. You must text stop back to that number or it will keep happening, i dont even know why i started getting them!

Otherwise, register with TPS on 0800-398-893 Orange users can forward the message to 'SPAM' and Vodafone users can forward to 'VSPAM'. Both will take action against offenders. |

The shortcode would appear to belong to a company called boltblue.
If texting "STOP" back to them doesn't work(it should) try their customer services on 0871 2230000 or service@mblox.com If they don't give you a satisfactory response then contact your network provider and get them to run feedback on the company, in order to be allowed to charge for incoming SMS, they have to abide by the rules, if the operator decides they're not diong this, they will lose their contract. |
