What is Quad band?
I notice that, as well as a growing percentage of Tri Band phones, a few are now Quad Band? What is the extra band that they have over a TriBand phone? Are they for use in Japan

Quad Band is for GSM 2.5 G Phones all over the world. Now its either Japan or China (cant remember which) where you do require a 3G Handset because they are so more advanced than us no longer use 2/2.5 G

Quad band gives you the two usual bands that we use in Europe and most of the rest of the world (900 & 1800), and the two bands they use in the USA (850 & 1900).

Yes it is deffinetely 850 and 1900mhz both of which are bands in the USA. They used different bands to Europe because the bands we use had already been taken. Usually motorolas that would be quad band as they orginate from America.
