Currently there is a new Australian soap opera entitled Headland in production which is to air sometime in 2005. It was originally intended as a spin off of Home and Away and was to be produced in conjunction with the UK's Channel Five, which screens Home and Away. Channel Five eventually pulled-out of the deal, meaning that the show - if produced - could potentially screen on another UK channel, so Five requested that the new show developed as a stand-alone series. This prevented the possibility of a Home and Away spinoff appearing on a rival station to that which screens the original.

It doesn't look like it's starting any time soon in the UK.

Must start soon if its i the soap listings, and if its a joint effort between Austrailia and the UK then it should be coming on as soon as its finished.

Huge shames its not a spin off from H&A. Would of been interesting, especially if it had more of an adult theme.

I wouldn't rule anything out yet.

It's still listed on E4's Autumn Programming lineup.

According to C4, no scheduling info, they've been saying this for months even when it was listed on E4's october programming lineup !

Maybe it will turn up on the net.

Is it? I find knowing people or using torrents my best source of rare files.

got some spoilers for the first and second episodes of Headland (the series begins in Oz tonight)

Spoiler
Adam Wilde returns to his home town of South Heads to take up the position of student counsellor at South Coast University. But it's a bitter-sweet appointment for Adam. His predecessor was tragically killed four weeks earlier in a car crash, along with three other locals. Adam discovers a community still reeling from the loss and also struggling with the mystery that surrounds the accident. The car's driver, Craig, now in a coma, is the only person who has the answers to the question on everyone's lips - what really happened that night?

and this is next weeks episode (from TV Week)

Spoiler
Headland — Partial recall
Tuesday and Thursday, 7.30pm, Seven Network
Having emerged from his coma, Craig finally remembers something about the horrific accident that claimed the lives of four locals, including his girlfriend Angela. Craig (Sam Atwell) can recall Angela (Caitlin Ashton) telling him she was sorry. But what exactly was she sorry for?

Well I've seen the first episode and all I can say is it's not must-see TV so far. But it's still early days first episodes are rarely representative of the rest of a show.
Once again though the cast is very white and non ethnic, there's lots of beach cliches, lots of posters of Aussie bands on the walls (very much like in H&A). All in all it's very soapie but not in a good way (you know not in a Sons &Daughters way).

And why did they choose to shoot right next to an oil refinery ? It seems like a strange choice to me.

I heard that

Spoiler
One of the ongoing storylines is supposed to be the conflict between blue collar industrial locals and the white collar uni students
so I guess the Oil refinery may be something to do with that

There used to be a joint UK/Australian soap called "Families" that showed the two parts of the same family plus community on both sides of the world...
Anyone remember it?
