Is Shayne too arrogant?

I like Shayne but last night he was too defensive and he did come across arrogant.

It's only his first negative comment from one of the judges and he should have just accepted it, like the others have in previous weeks.

I think he's over-confident rather than arrogant. One mediocre performance and they'll get in the bottom 2. He cannot afford to be complacent.

Last week I thought he was head and shoulders above everyone else. Last night he was rubbish. Despite Louis saying he could sing anything - he proved he cannot. Rock is not his forte. Bryan Adams rocks that song and Shayne just gave it nothing at all.

Maybe they're saving a fab song for him to win the competition with but that is a mistake. He actually has to get voted for every week. One crap performance and they could be in the bottom 2. I expect the judges will keep him in but it may shake him up to think well maybe the public aren't fooled.

He thinks he can blag it. Whereas the others put in a best performance every week to keep up their fanbase i.e. Maria, Brenda, Journey South and Andy. The rest need to up their game. Including Shayne.

Hi guys, i'm new here but just thought I'd add my piece! I agree that Shayne didn't come across brilliantly last night after his comments from Simon but I think Chenai and Nicholas came across worse in their reactions to the judges. I think he reacted well in not taking Sharon's come-ons too seriously. The song choice was bloody awful though, if he was gonna do a Bryan Adams track he should have gone for more of a ballad like Heaven imo. I actually think that a good choice of song for him would be something like Maroon 5's 'she will be loved'. He should stick to the slower songs to appeal to his fanbase

Agreed. I think the show has made him this way, he was never like this before the live shows.

He didn't sing badly, but the song choice was wrong for him. It was blatantly obvious that Louis had advised all his acts to answer Simon back. I'm not sure this is wise - sometimes this comes off, sometimes it doesn't. As for the Sharon thing, it is becoming a tad embarrassing, but that is wholly Sharon's fault, not Shayne's. She has put him in a no-win situation, where he has only three options - a) respond playfully, b) become all embarrassed and tongue-tied, or c) act outraged. Any one of those responses would elicit negative feedback from the public. I think the best way for Shayne to handle it would have been to play along at the time and speak to her quietly afterwards, asking her to tone it down for next week. But then, he IS only 20/21, so perhaps he should ask Louis to speak to her about it. I think either Simon or Louis should speak to her about it in any case.

Louis is his mentor, he should ask Louis to speak to Sharon about it.

Yeah louis really should. Sharon pawning over shayne and him lapping it up is just cringworthy.

Louis also needs to stop Nicholas and chenai answering back to simon

Yes he is arrogant.

Yes, I think that he did come across as too arrogant. The judges should remember that the Great British Public often demonstrate an element of schadenfreude when things start to go wrong for the great and good. I don't think it was Sharon's comments that he objects too - I actually thought he handled that fine - it was Simon's. Why not try and accept that the guy knows what he's talking about and take some of the comments on board. A sense of humility will make him all the more appealing.

One thing that I wondered about was that I thought that the winner of Xfactor would be signed to Simon Cowell's label anyway: so I'm not quite sure how Louis would have made a promise to sign him whatever happens.

Perhaps he meant he'd be signed if he didn't win? A few more lippy comments and he might not. There's still many weeks to go yet mister!

Editeded to add: Yes, that's what he meant

i think Journey South, Maria and the Conways are the only acts that havent exhibited any arrogance so far

the rest could do with a slap or two

Yes - I agree that Maria's behaviour on last night's show was excellent.

Shayne - Note well!

He shouldn't have to ask Louis. Louis should do it anyway.

Yes, Maria has behaved well, but a) she is ten years older, and b) she has had no adverse comments so far.

He comes across as fairly modest to me. I think it's also a fair comment to protest against being criticised for not doing a song exactly as the original performer did it but rather to do it in his own style (the fact that IMO he did it badly is beside the point).

I have heard that in the new pictorial version of the Oxford English Dictionary they're going to have a picture of Shayne under the definition of the word "arrogant".

I agree with you, I think he is beginning to believe all the hype surrounding him.

He will get to the final 3 as the judges will make sure he does, however with the likes of Brenda, Maria, Nicholas and a couple of others who have half a chance I think the public will be put off by the expectancy of him to win.

Think I'm liking Brenda at the moment.

The thing I didn't like was how he said "is it warm?" all camp and cheeky when Sharon was talking. Then when she asked when he wanted it he purred "right now" - how cheesy! It was like watching the two of them in the throes of lust but the only difference being millions were watching

yeah i agree Thriller.
Hes making himself look like a prat.
Maybe hes just nervous around Sharon, its horrible to watch i almost had to mute the tv.

Shayne is far too arrogant, second only to Nicholas. He's not an out-and-out arrogant prat, but I can only imagine his show-off behaviour is losing him votes.

it was like he knew he was safe.
i would love one of the favourites ie him andy or maria to be in the bottom 2 one week soon (obviously to be saved by the judges) just so it will hit them back down to reality.
Arrogance is not a nice a trait

I agree with that. He looked like he knew he was going through and then when his name was called his reaction was OTT.
