However, that is not what this particular competition is about - the prize in this one is a recording contract, so my point is that whilst the judges are happy to let the 'entertainer' stay for a few weeks to liven up the show, no way will they let it continue in definitely.
I was not making a comment on the entertainment business in general, just on this particular competition”

I can agree with your comments up to a point. My problem with the programme is that vying for a record contract on offer is all well and good, but I have yet to see one singer that truthfully has to offer what the programme wants........the X-Factor (that magic something that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up) coupled with the right image to be a successful recording artist capable of selling vast amounts of cds.
As far as I can tell they don't have anyone on there that is going to qualify in those areas at all. All of the singers have good competant voices, but that's just about the size of it.
But where's the X-Factor?

I remember studying Marius and Sulla many years ago for O-level Latin. Marius sounded extremely nasty, lots of slaughtering, etc. I rather like the name Sulla, though, quite aristocratic. I'm a big fan of Ancient Rome, will be watching the new BBC1 series starting this week.”
