Do you enjoy the music on SCD?

In the past few weeks I have bought three or four tracks from iTunes that had been featured on SCD, so I thought that I would start a Music Appreciation Thread.

Do you think that the music chosen suits the celebs? Build Me Up Buttercup is a song that I love, but it just annoyed me last night with all the miming and pointing. I loved the choice of Mein Herr for the Tango.

I do like the music choices, except the one that Erin and Colin danced to last night, I thought it didnt' go at all.

Personally speaking I think it would be better if the dancers could dance to a proper music track rather than the singers, apologies for the fans of the singers, but I don't personally think it goes that well.

We all have different tastes and views, but I adore the live band and think the singers do a sterling job. I particularly enjoyed 'Mein Herr' last night .. and thought the choice of 'From Russia with love' for Darren and Lilia was inspired and fantastic.

I think the music is almost always spot on. The song for Bill and Karen's quickstep last week, Mein Herr for James and Camilla and From Russia with Love this week for Darren and Lillia were all very intelligent and well thought-out choices.
I would agree that Colin and Erin's music this week wasn't as good as usual. Though as far as I can recall, that's the only song I haven't liked, so that's pretty good going, after three weeks!!.
The orchestra is absolutely fantastic and the singers are just brilliant. Well done to all concerned.

I just love the fact that they have a live band and singers performing all the songs, I think it adds an evenness to proceedings and helps to create a seemless atmosphere. it also saves us from having to listen to Simply Red or Kylie during any of the dances, so I get to watch all of them with the sound on! I think the singers do such a great job, I'm loving their work.

Colin and Erin were definitely let down by their music - okay, their performance was a bit lacklustre but I don't think they were that bad. If you have a memorable song it really helps - I thought the Mein Herr choreography was great!

Colin and Erin were dancing to a Geri Halliwell song...what did they expect bad bad choice.

Agree Camilla and James's choice of Mein Heir was great. I do tend to find that if Ilike the chioce of music I like the routien more.

Well I lie - I love Build me up Buttercup but hated Darren and Gloria's routien.

I love the live music. It gives a different edge to the songs that are chosen.

Me too.

And the band and singers are brilliant.

However, I prefer the more traditional pieces of music to dance to..I think that is what gave Patsy and Anton an extra edge last night as they had a 'proper' tango piece.

Who is it that chooses the music - is the pro dancers or are they given a list of options?

Does anyone know what that tune was called? It was very dramatic and pretty, I'd like to hear it again.

I would generally agree, but I think there are occasionally inspired choices, like "From Russia With Love". I would never have thought of that as a tango, and yet it worked really well.

I would also like to know who chooses the music?

I thought That Darren and Lilla dancing the quickstep to Let me Entertain You was the worst choice of music in all three series of SCD. It was awful, it made their dancing even look worse. Oh gawd, it was bad.

The music choices are usually great, and the live singers are excellent. There's a lady with a funky gravely voice. I always thought she was quite old until I saw her on ITT.

And I can't get "Hit The Road Jack" out of my head because of the jive last night.

I really enjoy that there is a live band and singers but find some of the more modern arrangements awful for dancing to. I agree with Eclipse80 in that 'Let me Entertain You' for a quickstep was a terrible choice. It wasn't lively or light as a quickstep should be.

I was hope-hope-hoping that someone would use "Happy Feet" for a jive or for a quickstep (I'm not sure which is it best suited to) - because it makes me so happy and is such a ballroom song.

But alas... no.

I think 'Happy Feet' would make a great quickstep!

Thanks for that ^ Happy Feet.

I would love to see someone do the jive to Hey Ya by Outkast. I think it would work really well

Could I get a little help?

I don't have the first idea of what music fits to what dance but someone told me that Nelly Furtado's music is great modern stuff for Latin dances...

If anyone owns "Woah Nelly!" or "Folklore" (which I do), could they perhaps listen to it and tell me which tracks are good for which latin dances - I was particularly interested in which ones would be good for a samba...

And on that note, any good songs for samba would be greatly appreciated!

I'd really appreciate it.

Sometimes I would like to hear the originals, as the band and singers voices dont always match the songs chosen. Last year Brendan and Sarah did their Pasa Doble to Evanescene- Bring me to Life and the bands version was just awful!

this may be a difficult "ask", but i see that there is a list of all the music choices week-by-week for this series - does anyone have the list of choices for the first 2 series???
there is probably too many, but if you don't ask................

I was disappointed with the paso doble music tonight. The adaptions of modern tunes just didn't seem to have much of a Paso feel tothem.

Yep, I agree! I thought to myself that this week because of the Pasa Dobles the music wasn't going to be that bad because a lot of the contestants were dancing to music without lyrics (Bill and Karen, James and Camilla). However, I thought the music didn't sound like the origionals at all which was bad IMO
