I do ballet, tap (which is my favourite, and the only thing I truely have a flaire for), theatrecraft and the like. Have done for 20 years (I'm 27 now). But SCD has made me think it's time to hit the ballroom.

Yes you should. Ballroom is magical. I love all the dance subjects and have an affection for each in different ways but Ballroom is absolutely magical and if I REALLY had to choose my favourite, it would be Ballroom.; the Ballroom part rather than the Latin part too.

On another note; how many of you guys know Old Time/Classical Sequence?

puts hand up to old timeand classical sequence - something that I love to watch done really well is quite lovely. Children always seem to enjoy learning and dancing the old time dances. My mum and dad competed in old time as well as modern and latin

Yes I can dance, but not to ballroom standard, I could waltz, quickstep, jive ,and set dance from a very early age.Anyone that know about set dancing will know that there are about five or six different dances to a set.

I'd love to be able to dance properly - disco on a night out is about all I can manage

However, if the lovely Mr Waite would like to travel to the far north of Scotland and teach me the odd move or two I would be eternally grateful

Just because I can't dance doen't mean I can't enjoy SCD

I love dancing - I didn't know I could salsa until a Fab dancer in Mexico dragged me onto the stage kicking & screaming - I think the cocktails helped with the fancy moves !

I took ballet lessons when I was very little - I stopped when I was 4 or 5 (for reasons that I cannot remember).

I went to dancing classes for a few months last year and had a great time but then I had exams to do so I stopped and haven't got back into it. Besides, that was dancing to popular music (which I have to say, I'm rather bad at).
I'd love to try ballroom but there ain't too many boys around my age (16) willing to do that!

Old Time which is also known as Classical Sequence is danced in partners and there are set dances (unlike the Ballroom & Latin) so everyone dances the same steps. A feature is the girl using her skirt to dance with and the couple usually start side by side instead of in Ballroom hold.

There are different rhythms to Oldtime:-
Twostep - a military type rhythm e.g. Boston Twostep, Premier Twostep.
Waltz - quicker than the Modern/Ballroom Waltz but slower than the Viennese Waltz. e.g. Lilac Waltz, Veleta.
Tango - e.g. Midnight Tango, Tango Magenta
Gavotte - a regal type rhythm, imagine traditional court dancers. e.g. Gainsbourgh Glide, Wedgewood Blue Gavotte
Saunter - similar rhythm to a Foxtrot e.g. Saunter Reve, Saunter Together.

Bendymixer:- great to know your kids enjoy the old time dances. I am a firm believer in a good grounding in Old Time. And how many girls don't want to play with their skirts!

I've been dancing Modern Jive (aka Ceroc) for at least 6 years now (competed twice last year, but without success)

I've also done a fair bit of Lindy Hop (mainly beginners level), and had a crack at salsa, West Coast Swing, Argentinian Tango, Jitterbug, classic Rock 'n' Roll, and the Charleston.

This weekend (11/12/13th Nov), I'll be at a jive weekend in Camber Sands, East Sussex. Apart from a shed load of taster classes, we'll be dancing right through till 6am for three nights in a row

Needless to say, I won't be able to walk on Monday

I like to think that I can dance ! I've been taking lessons in Ballroom and Latin for about 2 years, maybe a little more. I have also done a bit of old time, when I tried it I found it lots of fun!

Grandparents owned a school, and taught Ballroom dancing.

Parents third in the World Champsionships.

I have been able to dance since I could walk. My father having danced with be in his arms as a baby, and then as soon as I could stand, had me standing on his feet, whilst he danced around the floor!

You have to look hard , but there are a few around. There are 3 in our local school and the youngest is 14. All tall, so age not an issue and all have been dancing for at least 4 years.

This is mostly what I dance in competitions, it's my strongest part, I really love doing them! But I also love having the freedom to make up your own moves!

Total non-dancer here. As I've said in another post, I'm awkward, clumsy, tone-deaf and barely know my left from my right. It's a major acheivement for me to walk down a street without walking into a lamp post.

As a late starter at 24 (Now 25), I took my first Ballroom lesson with some trepidation in October 2004. I've also done about three months of Ceroc before switching to Salsa, alongside the Ballroom, as I love the expressive nature of the Latin American dances. After just over a year I'm now at Improver level in Ballroom, as well as Salsa.

For those of you who are thinking about taking up classes, I'd happily recommend it!

I can't dance either. I'm probably on the Fiona Phillips level when she started

I would love to learn it though, especially from a professional on this show

When I was a little girl my mother (ever the optimist) sent me for ballet lessons. In my tu tu I looked like a white orange with a frill around the middle. And the flat feet didn't do much to help either! Anyway the teacher, sensible woman, gave mum her money back and told her to stop flogging a dead horse.
I've never tried since!
