Hi, my mum can never workout what telephone is ringing in the house when people ring! I have a phone in my room which has a very loud high piched ring. And the normal line has 2 DECT phones and a wired phone. The DECTs play a bit of a tune thing, like many do.

My mam can not workout where any sound is coming from, never mind the phone. But she just said i should find out if other people just hear a phone and go and answer a phone. She talks to the dialtone quite often, she answers phones which are not ringing.

So what's your views? Can you work out the differenece between phones?...... Also does anyone use BT Call Sign?

Thanks!

I read all of that in a Geordie accent! (Sorry if I'm being inappropriate or something. )

Can't she buy new phones that have different ring tones?

I tohught it was possible to set up a *different* ring tone for each member of the household ... perhaps this is a BT service ... ?

They do BT call sign, you get an additional number which when rung instead of doing ring ring, ring ring, ring ring. it goes ring , ring , ring. And my mum can't work that out either!

She doesn't have to work it out ... just train her to pick up the phone on *her* ring and leave it alone if it's a different ring

I think the whole point is that sean2003's mum cannot tell the difference between different phone rings, so if someone cannot tell the difference they may not easily be 'trained' to do so either.

I think it is the same with my Dad (if he even hears the phone ringing at all...)
Though my parents only have one phone line in their house, my Dad can often go to answer the phone when it is not ringing when he hears a phone on the TV, even if that phone on the TV sounds nothing like his own phone.

I don't know anyone else who can't tell the difference though.

After reading that, I read the post again and it sounded like Kevin Whately speaking in my head

@The OP - is it possible for you to reduce the ringing volume on your phone, so your mum doesn't hear it?

The Link uses to sell a device that diverted calls based on the ring tone (so suitable for use on BT call sign) to different phones.

Don't know if it's still available.

Well, yes, my mum can't be botherd to listen to the different ring types, or can't.......

In response to '@The OP - is it possible for you to reduce the ringing volume on your phone, so your mum doesn't hear it? '....... Well i could........ But then i could not hear the phone when not in my room

The callsign adaptor mentioned is available, it just rings a different phone when your call sign number is rang. I have more than one line, so have my own number, and my own phone rings....... She still tries to answer her's when mine goes!

I have my own line into the house, and have no problems.

All I did was buy a BT Synergy twin handset package.

The package:

2 DECT Handsets
Base station (for connection to power & phone line)
Charger station
I have the charger station in my room, and have turned off the base station ringer. You can also prioritise which rings first, and by how many rings. Eg. the handset usually in my room rings for 4 rings on its own before the second handset starts.

This way they needn't know your phone is ringing, so the confusion is no more!

The problem here seems to be your Mum's hearing. Get phones with lights on them which light up when the phone rings. I also suggest she sees her Doctor about getting a hearing aid or maybe having her ears syringed.

Many years ago, BT used to offer phones with neon flashing lights incorporated in the handset, so you could see which phone was ringing. It was very handy when I had 3 phones on my desk. Do they still offer such a thing?
