Sorry but it's getting such a bad press at the moment I just want to get a few things off my chest! It's a great place to live and is full of great people, including most of my family. My aunt runs a pub there and the atmosphere there is great full of the nicest people you'll meet. Yes Jade grew up there and is thick, however my father also grew up there and he has an engineering degree. So please don't judge such a lovely place full of lovely people by just one person!!!!!

For the record I also live in Bermondsey - and do most of the time have my front door open and unlocked - I get on with all my neighbours and hardly ever see any trouble. I too have a degree in English - my daughter - born and educated in Bermondsey wants to become a teacher and is heading that way - doing very well at school. I don't live in the "posh" part of Bermondsey but on an estate where everyone knows everybody and everybodies business - there is still some "cockney" spirit left!!!

I think darkheart is getting at the fact that violent hoodlums from East London both North and South have always had their behaviour excused by the local populace because they "loved their Mum".
SE1 crime statistics suggest that 1 in 30 people is victim of a violent physical assault every year (you're probably odds on to be a crime victim if you add in all the other types of crime).
Sad, but true. Bermondsey may have some luvverly parts to it, but it also has areas which are scary.

Actually, a Sarf Londoner too, believe it or not.

For the five minutes that it would've lasted. I'd ratehr have the sustained delight of watching Adeles machinations play themsleves out becuase that would be interesting.
