Sony or Samsung 26" LCD
I have been looking at buying a new TV and could not decide between the Samsung LE26R41BDX and the Sony BRAVIA KDLS26A12U. Both TV's are HD ready and both round the same price. Could anyone please recomend which is the best out of the 2 TV's. I would use it also for when the Xbox 360 comes out

www.avforums.com is probably the best place for you to ask this.

Danny, I'd go for the Samsung. They seem to have more of a handle on LCD technology. Sony are just starting to perfect their technology after a few years of producing Vega plasmas.

Ive got the Samsung its a great buy and has done well in most magazine reviews too. There is a 'tearing' issue on certain inputs but Samsung send you the kit to upgrade the firmware for free. Just waiting now for SKY HD....

Just got my Samsung today with Freeview didnt realise that the tv also have an analogue tuner in too as well as a cam slot for Toptv.
Great picture seemed to me at least better after a while being turned on, maybe its just me. Connected to a Humax 9200T freeview box so I have the best of both worlds. I aim to connect to a pc latre this week once I get my new tv stand and netgear pci wireless card for connection to network. So far well pleased. |

The newest Sony's are the best LCDs made. They obviously have a greater colour gamut with super bright saturation and extremely high contrast. They look noticeably better than the Samsungs.

But just for the record theres a lot of talk comparing Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, Loewe etc. but for me the Phillips32PF9830 leaves ALL other screens completely and utterly in the shade, so much so that the ultimatley subjective comparisons made between ALL the others are made a bit irrellevant as the Phillips takes the whole market sector to the next level. In other words what im trying to say is that the Phillips picture will win you over regardless of any concious or unconcious preferences for different nuances of television picture attributes. Yes its expensive but the prices will (and are) begin to fall. Eg. You can buy one in Selfridges for £1999 (phew) or you can get as low as around £1700 or even (if you believe them) £1500, although such a price does raise suspicions. |

Depends how you respond to it when you see it in the shop or wherever.

Maybe you haven't seen the latest Sony LCDs? Their Bravia line? Most of the newest LCDs are excellent, but the Bravia Sonys have the best colour gamut and are overall the best in realistic rendition that I have seen. |

Samsung make the Sony Lcd panels. Sony is no longer a leading brand more middle of the road.

Just took delivery of the Samsung LR6R41B yesterday. Looked forward to stunning LCD display but appear to have harsh, unpleasant TV picture. Difficult to convince my wife now that the £700 was worth it! The DVD picture seems okay but the Digibox pictures are worse than my old CRT 4:3 TV that I've had from before we were married (12 years!!).
Both are connected via the SCART sockets. Any ideas??? |

Pay the extra and get a Panasonic. Better than both the Samsung and Sony (the latest Sonys are made by Samsung anyway). Dave |

It shouldn't but somehow it does. I think it's all to do with the scaler. It has to add information into the picture to get the resolution increase.
I hope reviews of HD sets make a point of talking about how good SD material looks |

I got a 32 in amsung LCD with Freeview but discovered that by just browsing Froogle on Google I could pick up the TV over £300 cheaper than Comet and Currys! I got the Samsung for £899 off a smaller shop that trades on the net whilst at Currys it was £1,199 which meant that I could also afford the High Definition Samsung DVD layer for £95....a great bargain also.

I'm also looking to buy an HD television and it has to be Black, looks far less cheaper then Silver, the Samsung telly looks like a bargain and I've noticed that there is a model £50 cheaper without Freeview (which I don't need as I'm getting a twin tuner recorder) it really does seem like a popular buy, anything I should be weary of though?
Or is it worth looking at other models? LG also looks good but not as reasonable. Thanks for your help folks |

the new bravias look fantastic - and have had great user reviews on sites like cnet.
was in john lewis the other day and they had a panasonic (?) veira (?) with HD material playing - and it looks phenominal. definitely need to start saving with a view to replacing the sony in 2007 - by which time it will be about 8 yrs old, and there will hopefully be some HD material being broadcast. might be tricky to convince the wife tho' - the sony is still doing a good job, although does suffer from screen bowing - although its only really noticable when graphics are on screen, eg news banners.
