Vodafone upgrade
joe_m
31-10-2005
I recently got a Vodafone contract about 6 months ago on an 18 month contract

Does this mean that I can only get an upgrade in the 17 month?

cheers

Yes pretty much. hence the 18 month contract.

There is a chance that if you want to upgrade your tarriff they might consider it sooner.

Whatever the length of contract, when you have less than 2 months remaining you can upgrade. If you upgrade sooner there will charges to pay.

You can upgrade in month 15, I recently got a new 18 month deal and this was confirmed to me.

Make sure that in the three months leading up to your upgrade, you pump your bill up considerably, 'cos that's how they determine the cost of your upgrade.

I've been with Vodafone for 10 years, and I wanted a Motorola Razr V3. I was told that 'cos my monthly spend over the last three months was low, it would cost me £100 to upgrade. The only cheaper way to do it was to terminate my contract and start another, but for some reason I wouldn't be able to keep my old number! The fact that I had been a long-term customer meant nothing, all they were bothered about was how much I had spent in the last three months, which was obviously not as much as they would have liked me to!

I phoned Customer Services, the bimbo at the other end suggested a way I could get it (not a lot) cheaper, which I declined, she then started to try something else, but obviously decided it would be too much work 'cos she hung up on me! I've heard stories of CS hanging up on people but never thought it was true, and had never experienced it, until now.

I promptly trotted up to my local Orange store, the guy there was helpful and informative, giving me all the cheapest options, if somebody was waiting and I was busy playing with the phone, he asked them if "it was just a quick question" and dealt with it without even keeping me waiting, and I walked out of there with the V3 I wanted, in silver, and didn't hand over a penny for the privilege.

I'm terminating my contract with Vodafone and i will never go back.

Just an aside, when you're having to go through Vodafone's CS menu, option 4 is "If you are considering leaving Vodafone, press 4". Why don't they just say "If you wish to terminate your contract" or somesuch, rather than something that says "We are going to try talk you out of it using our pre-installed brainwashing activation codewords after which, if they don't work, we will hang up on you!"?

Well, that's the impression I got from my experience anyway.

I think you're being a bit harsh. they are in the business of making money, not keeping you happy.

The V3 handset is about £200.
