Anyone found any Firmware issues with this machine yet.

My machine has firmware version 1.08.

Has anyone else noticed that when you set up a personalised channel 'Profile' and you then select that profile in the TV guide it does not retain it after you exit the TV guide.

ie. It keeps going back to the default setting of showing 'ALL' the stations instead of your selected profile.

I've tried switching the quick start/standby features on-off but does not offer a fix for this.

The manual states that selected channel profiles are retained... hmmmm. strange!

I've found they are retained "more" (though still not permanently) if you select them using the blue key whilst you have the info screen across the bottom of a live broadcast. Each selection change dumps you back at BBC1, but once it's done it seems to stick a bit better than selecting it from the EPG.

Thanks Helen for the info, I've just tried this and it does indeed seem to work from the info banner, to be honest I had not noticed that a category could be selected from there. I tried going into standby a couple of times, and it was retained.

This is the only issue I have noticed with the machine so far. I have forwarded a email to Panasonic re. this. May get fixed in future update in the event they ever release one.

Well after further experimentation, I've found that the P-Guide category profile can be retained from standyby and even from a cold switch-on.
Fix turned out to be very simple.

When in the P/Guide, after selecting your profile, make sure you exit P/Guide by selecting to view a program, not by pressing the return. The Category Profile is then retained permanently until another profile is selected.
Afterwards the return key can be used as normal.

Well... unfortunately I've since found that occasionally it will still revert back to 'ALL' instead of retaining your chosen profile when its been powered off at the mains overnight, not every time, but its happened about 3 times so far.

It does seem to keep its settings from standyby however.

Not sure if this is a problem with the Panny or Freeview TX.
On Mendip at full signal strength and i am getting occasional picture freezing mainly on Ch 4 and Five lasts only 3-4 seconds.I have done the auto install (to cure the clock problem) but it still happens.

IME most picture freezing are often caused by a poor antenna.
I have quite a good signal here from Winterhill, and since buying my EH60D about a month ago I think have had channel 5 freeze a couple of times, each time lasting just a fraction of a second. I have experienced no other problems, and suspect that this was caused at the transmitter end, and not mine.

I have 3 other cheap Echostar freeview boxes in the bedrooms, and in all cases any freezing of the picture was remedied by up-dating the antenna or adding a cheap antenna booster.

Further to this problem of not retaining the selected catagory, the following is a reply to a email I sent Panasonic re. this problem, (it took them a month to reply)
and apparently thay say this behavour of losing the selected catagory setting is normal!.. ah ah What a joke. So no magic fix unfortunately.

In response, I would explain that This is normal if you do not select a programme to jump to from the chosen cateogory when in the EPG.

If you simply exit the EPG guide without jumping to a programme in the selected catergory then the guide will revert to the catergory setting of the info banner.

The i button on the handset when pressed brings the info bar up and from this the catergory is changed by pressing the blue key repeatedly

I have had two occassions when the picture has frozen and the sound continued forever. On one of those occasions the box froze altogether and wouldn't respond to the remote at all (funny though because it responded with a wrong remote message when I used the remote for another machine set to a different code). This resulted in having to perform the 10 second hold power down to recover the machine.

I have version 1.6 (come on let's have it update Panasonic) and signal quality of 10 or just under on all channels.

How is the firmware up dated on these machines? I was told it's not possible by a certain sales person?

Its usually done over the air.

Updates etc are transmitted on unused lines that dont normally get displayed on the TV, so they use these to send information.

You normally need to set your m/c to BBC1 or 2 for the upgrade to take place.

check the following link, as they have a regularly updated list of future updates and times of their transmission.
I recently had my Sony TV's firmware updated by this method.

Has anyone experienced problems where their EH60DEBS has given a no signal message on turning on from standby.

This happened to me today, the machine has been fine for the last month or so since purchase, but I recorded a film this afternoon using the Video Plus timer. Later in the evening when I powered it out of standby I noted it was not putting out a signal to the TV, and the signal strengh showed as NIL signal, zilch.. nothing at all. The TV however which also has a built-in freeview tuner was working fine, and the arial feed to the TV goes through the EH60DEBS first, thereby ruling out a arial or arial cabling problem.

Switching back to standby and then turning back on again did not make any difference... ie still nothing.

I then powered it off at the mains completely for about a minute and all was back to normal when I powered it on again with signal strength showing about 99% which is what it normally is. It worked fine all evening afterwards.

So what happened? A potential hardware problem, or a firmware bug.. no idea, but no doubt time will tell.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is a bug probably triggered by interference to the signal at some point. Mine has crashed on me a further two times since my last post so it may be down to the season and things such as impulse interference from central heating switches/pumps etc.

I would also recommend that you use the "hold down the power button for more than 10 seconds" to recover the machine before resorting to unplugging it. Doing this the machine will display "BYE" and totaly shut down and turn off the timer. When powered back up it does the very long self check. The instructions say that unpluging the machine can cause problems with discs that will require reformatting or may result in the becoming unusable.

I will try the 10sec method to reset it in the event it occurs again. This is the first time its showed this problem, touch wood I've had no probs at all till now, and its been okay since... hope its not going to develope into a common occurance or it will have to be returned for repair.


I do tend to power everything off at night, I dont think it harms the drive by switching off as long as its in standby mode. ie not being used. Similar to one would treat your computer system. One would be foolish to switch off while its being used.

How do you mean yours crashed, do you mean it locked up, would'nt do anything?
