The Free one only bars SOME premium rate numbers (unless the system has changed in the last two years) - really useful that BT don't tell you up front that it can't block all 09 numbers, and you only find out when you get a £200 phone bill!

I'm lucky having no teenage kids in the house - there's just two adults (though the missus says I'm just a big kid).... Wouldn't it be possible for BT to set up a PIN system for the line renter that had to be keyed in before the line would activate (except 999s and free BT services of course), so "little cherub" had to ask renter to dial the number for each call? THAT would slow them down a bit

BT don't want to introduce services to save you money, they love it when your bill jumps up, higher bill higher profits. They are in the business to make money.

The PIN system as suggested earlier would be easy to introduce but would prevent them making money. I only use BT for non geographical numbers, (which I try to avoid) instead use companies like 18866, who despite there low rates can still make a profit.

Do you think supermarkets are responsible for having massive shops with rows upon rows of stuff to buy? I mean, you could spend millions if you bought everything.

We have had our line over 5 years
So?

If we never got our bill when we did, the amount could be a lot more, it like giving BT a license to print money.
So get them to set a credit limit.

Point taken on the PIN idea . Only Ofcom could make them do that then.... (yeh, right).

Still, I have learned something from this thread. Never knew you get BT to give you a credit limit. Obviously something else they try to keep quiet for the same reason they wouldn't want to introduce PINs

On the PIN idea, given todays computer technology everyone in the house could be allocated different access levels hence no large unexpected bills.

I'm sure if this system was introduced then many users would be prepared to pay a fee for this service. I'm sure it would be a good PR exercise for BT.

BT allow you to view and pay your bill on-line, you get a full call listing which you can download and import into excel. The system also allows you to to view your current call spend made since your last bill, so you won't get another surprise when your next bill turns up.

You need a few pieces of info to sign up, your phone number, the account number (off the bill) and the latest bill number. Check it out a bt.com

why dont you change your phone to BT pay and go? Exactly the same call charges line rental and everything, the only difference is
1) No Bill
2) Once you run out of credit, you cant make a call except to 0800 numbers 150 999 etc.
3) a fiver a week must be put on the phone though as your 2.65 a week line rental is taken every Thursday morning.

No big bills no worry about debt, and no murdering the kids when the bills show!
