How on earth did the Sned win?
I know it is not X factor but Fame Academy was a similar format to it. I just am boggled now that David Sneddon ever won that.
Maybe the future for XF contestants really is in losing out by not being bland enough. Who is bland enough to win this year? |

I remember when he was on Fame Academy, and the whole of Scotland was going mad over him, so it must have been the Scottish vote!
I couldn't walk around the centre of Glasgow without getting mobbed by people campaigning for him! It was crazy. |

I met David Sneddon a month after he won, and what a lovely man he is! Very down to earth! But that's besides the point.
I'm not sure about the Scottish vote Sparrow I was actually rooting for Sinead! My guess is the girls thot he woz fit!

I think it was partly 'cos the judges were nasty to him and gave him a hard time - works every time!

I think what happened to David Sneddon (((THE-MAJESTIC-SNED))), is what happens to all the performers. The reality (pun) of taking part in these shows is that your fame/potential/career is just a dream and the dream is maintained as long as the show is airing and raking in revenue.
Once it's over reality hits full on, and the TV company or production company really do not want to know. They may go down the road of recording you and releasing at least one single/album, but really, they are just looking for a easy way to let you go. I think this is what happened to (((THE- MAJESTIC-SNED))), his record company refused to promote him or his album, and obviously he was greatly disillusioned by it all. Long Live (((THE- MAJESTIC-SNED)))

David Sneddon was a rarity though, considering his first single was written by himself.
Sinead's single was brilliant too though. Thinking back, Fame Academy was much better. I bet a few of the acts on X factor would have done a lot better on FA, given the chance to perform their own material. |

I will not have anything nasty said about The Sned. ![]() The main reason why he won was because of his vocal ability plus many followed the interactive live coverage of what was happening every day and you had a much better idea of their personality. I wanted him to win and have been to many of his gigs. He is part of a band called The Sham and is also recording a solo album at the moment. |

You always bring happy news to my attention. It puzzles me why the TV companies, aware of how much FA interactive interested viewers, have not continued with this format. To me PI1 and FA1 were the benchmark of what all that followed them failed to emulate. FA2, did have it's moments, but I think because FA1 was broadcast in autumn leading up to Christmas, there seemed to be a more magical quality to it. Do you know what I mean?

I liked David as well and, even though I also like Sinead, I really wanted him to win FA and was glad when he did.
I'd heard about him working on new solo material as well, looking forward to hearing it.

Do you know what I mean? ![]() With regards to Fame Academy, I think the first series either captured or alienated people. I watched the opening programme and, although initially I didn't take to David when he first was on stage being interviewed, as soon as he started singing I was blown away! I was so annoyed that he wasn't voted to stay on the programme. I occasionally watched the interactive during the day and couldn't believe my eyes when I turned on one afternoon only to find that David had come in to replace the unfortunate Naomi. From then on I lived every damn day in the house with them via my television! I think it alienated some people because they had gone through the first Pop Idol series and they were expecting that maybe Fame Academy would be the same format, which of course it wasn't. For me some programmes are best the first time round, I loved Pop Idol 1 but never really found the same enjoyment after that with subsequent series. Similarly, there was something special about the first Fame Academy that wasn't captured the next series for me either. |

It really annoyed me that in FA2, the singers all performed in that little room, that the celebrity version was done in.
FA1 had a huge audience, and the atmosphere seemed so much better. Looking back, I actually preferred FA to Pop Idol. It was such a fresh format, and I enjoyed every single bit of it! |

I wanted Sinead or Lemar to win FA1 at the time, but David Sneddon seemed like a lovely guy and I personally think is a good songwriter so I wasn't disaoointed when he won. |

I was disappointed David Sneddon won.. i would have much rather have seen Lemar, Sinead or Ainslie win personally as i was more blown away by their performances, especially Lemar. Talking about Fame Academy one of my favourite songs is that Lullaby song Lemar, Ainslie and David composed and sung actually!

The songwriting aspect of Fame Academy makes it a far superior format to Pop Idol and The X Factor imo. There also seemed to be far greater variety in the cover songs that were sung as well.

Lemar should have won fame academy! But oh well he's done very well for himself now and that show was pretty tacky so it's all worked out for the best

I never liked Lemar at all when FA was on and really couldn't understand what everyone saw in him - I have grown to like him since though, but I don't like his 2nd album as much as his first.
At the time David was my favourite by a long way and I was really glad he won, though I did like Sinead and Ainslie (who I must admit I had completely forgotten about until someone mentioned him a couple of posts ago) as well. Last edited by *Eileen* : 01-11-2005 at 21:31. |
