Chaps

I seem to have a problem with the "Quick Timer" function on the above unit.

According to the manual, this operates much like it used to on Sony VCRs, ie you press the Record button repeatedly to set the recording time in 30 minute segments.

For example, pressing the REC buttonm quickly three times will set the timer at 1 hour and count down from that, and stop recording automatically at the end.

Trouble is, pressing my REC button any number of times has no effect - it just records normally, no sign of the Quick Record countdown timer.

I was about to get in touch with Sony but before I do I wondered if anyone else has had the same issue?

Many thanks

I have previously tried to use this feature on my GXD500 to no avail. I figured I was doing something wrong, and then discovered the Tools=>Timer option which records the current programme to the end. Having discovered that feature, I never went back to the manual to investigate OTR.

Ah, got it. You need to turn off TV Direct Rec in Setup=>Features.

Thanks for that Chris! Goes to show the experts here are better than any manual.

That information came from the manual but I guess Sony may have helpfully omitted it from the 710 one.

But thanks anyway for the "expert" thing.

This seems to be a common problem as my other half asked me this same question regarding her 510. Had to download the manual to find the answer. It seems the TV Direct Record is on by default on these units. I don't recall that being the case with my own HX900

Did your other half get the 510 OTR? to work

I have turned the TV Direct Rec. function OFF, which was set to ON BY DEFAULT. But still don't seem to have the ability to press the record button in 30min increments. When pressing the REC button numerous times, the HDD REC just lights up in the bottom left of TV screen briefly. ( I think this would be the obvious place to see the record time).
In the 510 op manual "Recording a program" page 31 it justs says "recording stops automatically after 8 hours" with no mention of OTR feature.

Am I missing something!!!!

Thanks for any help

I'll have to check when I next spaek to her, I'm working most of the next few days. On my 900 the time comes up on the display where the recording time is but counting down from 30 or whatever is set, but not on screen.
As far as the manual goes that's where I found that TV Direct record must be off, copy downloaded from Sony website.

I've just checked with the other half and Yes the quick timer does work now that TV Direct record is off. Incidentally it's not in her printed manual, only in the one I downloaded.
