I received the following email from O2 on Wednesday:
Dear O2 user
We are sending you this as our records show that you are an O2 registered user and that you have been receiving one or more of our free alerts services. (You may have registered when we were Genie, and we have since become O2.)
In order to maintain quality standards and ensure continued improvement to our text alert services, we will be introducing charges for free text alerts from 30 days' time.
Unfortunately, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile do not currently have facilities to allow O2 to bill you for receiving O2 SMS alerts, so we regret that from 3rd August 2002 we will no longer be able to send you O2 text alerts.
We apologise for this interruption in service, and we will contact you again shortly when we are able to offer you the service. We trust you have enjoyed receiving O2 text alerts, and that you'll stay with us after we have implemented these changes.
O2 Customer Care Team
Hope that helps.
