Problems using freetalk
I've been having problems using freetalk for most of the afternoon. When i try and make a call i get an engaged tone instead of a dial tone.
Is anyone else having the same problem or is it just me? |

just a couple of questions about the freetalk adapter.
1. Does having the adapter mean i can use the service without having the pc on? 2. Whats the call quality like? is it good as a landline? Thanks |

Thanks The adaptor requires you to have an Ethernet connection to your broadband modem rather than USB. The call quality is excellent and there are some good features. |

Is anyone else having the same problem or is it just me? Have you checked that the 'Service' light on your adaptor is lit? If not, try cycling power on your modem/router and your adaptor. |

WAN Port - This connects to your Modem/Router LAN Port - You plug one end into the Adaptor and the other into your PC. The Adaptor acts as a pass-thru for your Connection so it doesn't matter if your PC is on or off. |

Not happy at all - from calling their customer services dept, they said this is a common occurance with Halifax customers. No refund yet - letter of complaint on it's way. Be wary! |

Can I ask a FreeTalk question. Does anyone know if FreeTalk can have a TiVo (or similar device using a modem) plugged in and work as per a landline. Are 0800 numbers free?
TIA. |

It keeps coming up declined by bank but iv been on to the bank but they have no record of any requests i was even put through to the visa dept that said the same. Freetalk suggested it might have been a security block on my card because they are based in the states but theres no problems there ill keep trying over the next couple of days then take the adapter back to dixons.

Freetalk told me the same thing. But, after six attempts it did register my card. I think its just halifax cards that are having problems.

Returning a freetalk adapter
I've got a freetalk adapter and i'm thinking about returning it to dixons. The freetalk t&c's state you have a 14 day trial of the service. I've got the £6.99 monthly plan and i think it's a bit expensive compared to other voip services.
I'd like to know if dixons would refund the cost of the freetalk adapter. Can anyone help. |

Good Day,
The terms and conditions merely state that you must have a valid credit card, the credit check is used to verify that your card has access to funds. The £40 never actually leaves your account, it is just a credit check and for the vast majority of customers they never see any indication that it occurred. Also, we are planning on lowering the credit check amount in the near future. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this, our e-mail system has been down. I belive the issue that you were reporting has been fixed now, please let me know if you continue to experience problems. Kind regards, Dave Tutch Freetalk Support Team I received this today, only 4days since a sent anyway i dunno if it helps anyone, I asked where in the t&c's does it say that you must have £40 in your account for the credit check. |

Well I signed up 6 days ago and so far so good. I bought the annual package. The service has been very good, audio quality is excellent and there is no delay like I was getting with Vonage. I am using a Mastercard as my payment method and have had no problems with them taking money from me. So far it seems an excellent service.
