Giving up on Thomson
Steve Green
02-11-2005
Just got off the phone to Thomson about the widescreen bug,

they won't give me a timeframe for the fix, not even down to weeks, months or years, other than they are aware of it and it is being worked on.

I've frankly had enough - it was an annoyance when only ITV2 was affected, but 5 channels that don't work properly, and they've had pretty much a year to sort it out is not on.

Any suggestions for a replacement?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

But the Fusion 100/150's just got the fix - so as long as it is a 4TV generic fix (I'd guess so) rather than a Fusion specific fix then there has to be a STRONG chance that it is coming soon for the 4000

If I was you I'd hold on a bit longer - maybe give it until the end of this month at least?

Hi,

The thing is, it's almost out of warranty, so if I leave it till then I will have lost the chance to get a refund.

I just think that the longer this goes on the less likely it's going to appear at all.

I'd already given them until the end of October to fix it (since that tied in with the launch of another channel which wouldn't work properly), and there had been mention elsewhere that it would have been released by now.

The conversation with Thomson didn't fill me with much hope of a fix appearing before the end of the year and I'd rather cut my losses and have nothing to do with Thomson ever again.

Cheers

Not sure if you'll be able to get a refund (depends on retailer). It's likely they'll only offer "repair" (err.. no!) or "exchange" for some other PVR.

Well, that's what the guy at Thomson said I should do, and I took his name in case there was a dispute with the retailer. They can argue it amongst themselves.
