This is why they never repeat SCD or ITT, apparently...

I sent in a message to the BBC asking why Scottish viewers have to miss out on the Thursday episode of ITT every week. For those that don't know, we have Gaelic programming on at the time of SCD every Thursday, and they don't repeat it at a later time so we can catch up. It's pretty harsh, it means that we effectively miss out, which doesn't seem very fair to me. This is the reply I got, which seems to have an explanation for the paucity of any kind of repeat of the show:

Quote:
“Thank you for your e-mail regarding the programme 'Strictly Come Dancing:
It Takes Two'

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the programme, which uses phone voting
lines at the time of transmission, BBC Scotland cannot transmit this
programme later in the evening
and also as you state due to our commitment
to our Gaelic output. We apologise to viewers for this and we are looking
at the scheduling arrangements for such programmes.

I am sorry you are so disappointed but thank you for taking the time to
contact us and please be assured your comments will be logged for the
attention of senior management.

Regards

Mark Campbell
BBC Information Scotland”

I was actually pretty surprised to get a reply, from what other people have said on here they haven't had much response in the past. It's a nice email too, i appreciate it.

What it does say is that they can't repeat SCD because the phonelines are closed. I didn't realise that they were only open at certain times, so that's interesting. What I don't understand is why they can't put up a big 'phonelines are currently closed' banner in the style of 'The X-Factor' when it's on a repeat.

Anyway, I thought it might be of interest to FMs here.

Lines are open all the time. They only close for a brief while on Saturdays, while the votes are being counted, untill the latest evictee is announced.

Sounds to me like they're fobbing you off...

I agree that if The X Factor can repeat with lines that are only open for a couple of hours, why can't SCD?

A reluctance to pay repeat fees probably has more to do with it.

Do you have satellite TV? If so, go up to the top end of the Sky Guide, channel 961 (BBC2 Wales) and 962 (BBC 2 Northern Ireland) have SCD:ITT instead of the joy that is Tir is Teanga. (I used to use the same trick to watch BBC2 Scotland for Still Game and BBC1 Scotland for River City).

I wish I did! I've only got freeview, unfortunately, but thanks for the tip.

they may mean phone lines for the actual ITT programme - polls, questions etc. eg they had a poll on worse male dancer dress the other week.

I agree they could put phone lines closed or say they are before the programme starts. Email them again to suggest it to them and point them to what X factor does.

Big Brother's Little Brother has polls and stuff on it too and they manage to repeat it. Boo to the BBC.
