Great song & the only xmas song that's any good. It would be good to see Shane on TOTP.

It'll be the video only for obvious reasons !

This is the best christmas pop song ever IMHO and fully deserves to top the charts

Yes, but... how would they get around the Kirsty MacColl "issue"?

There are a few filmed performances of it that include Kirsty, so perhaps they could use those. I'd love for it to be number one.

We need a campaign to get this to Christmas No. 1. Any suggestions?

Buy everyone a copy for Christmas...tell all of your friends!!! And the proceeds are going to homeless charities...even better!

POGUES FOR CHRISTMAS NO.1 !!!!

Have to back this.. the best Christmas song of all-time. Deserves to get to #1 this time around.

Will certainly be picking up a copy or two

I'd sort of forgotten. It's still so hard to believe she's gone.

I'm going to break the cosy consensus and say that Christmas songs in general are crap and this one in particular stinks.Kirsty McColl was great but that toothless,IRA supporting drunk Macgowan couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.

frankly... im getting tired of it... yes its an all time great, possibly the greatest, but theres only so many times i can listen to a track...

for me, it belongs fondly in the past. id sooner see something new out..

I think there are much better Christmas songs, and this one drives me insane everytime I hear it. I hate it, probably something to do with the bumbling voice of the Shane MacGowan, I don't think there's anything joyful or Christmas-y about it.

Shane has a voice you either love or hate - from a songwriting point of view it's *undeniably* a great song.

That's why it's a good song. It's virtually impossible to write something christmassy which isn't corny. The only other xmas song I like is Elastica's version of We 3 Kings.

Thats what makes it so great!! the contrast between the tuneless Macgowan and then Kirsty comes in and is note perfect.

it is THE christmas song IMO and I shall be buying.

I'm not quite sure I understand why it's being rereleased. It's already on practically every single Christmas compilation that ever existed (aside from those that contain the God-awful version by Ronan Keating and Marie Brennan!), and it cannot really be "updated" in any way - not that I'm sure I'd want it to be - because of the untimely loss of MacColl.

It is a fantastic song and definitely my joint-favourite Christmas song of all time, and if the proceeds are going to charity then I guess it's not all bad, but really - there isn't a single person in the country who doesn't already own a copy, and as a tribute to Kirsty MacColl it is five years too late.

Who knows.

It didn't get number 1 the first time did it, I believe it just missed out and got the number 2 spot.

This will also be the 2nd re-release, it was released in 1991 again when it reached 38.

Actually i did make an error. It got to number 2 in 1987 (i was 15). Its such a huge song i honestly thought it did make it number 1. Anway i still oved it then and love it now.

Pet Shop Boys got to Number 1 that Christmas. I think, to his credit, that Neil Tennant has said in an interview that this was unfair.
