Telephone voting ~ lines always open!

Does anyone else think it is wrong that the lines stay open all week? I know they want to gather as much money as they can for children in need, but it turns it all into a popularity contest rather than a dancing contest ~ peopel with a huge fan-base could be through on phone votes before they even dance on the saturday!

True but in the grand order of things, if one extra child is helped by the extra money for Children In Need, at the expense of a 'true' competency-based contest, then it's worth it.

I don't think it's wrong at all.

I agree if you like snooker etc your mans through regardless and lets face it we dont need the competition to give to charity we could do that in our own time anyway

Maybe "wrong" isn't quite the right word, but it does detract from the voting being a judgement of dancing. If I pick up the phone & vote for someone right now, on what basis am I voting? Certainly not the dancing, I've not seen that yet. So it comes down to it being a popularity contest and not a dancing contest. (Although I think thats pretty apparent from the masses of GMTV / Brendan fans who clearly spend the entire week hitting redial! On fan votes alone Fiona could already have a large enough percentage of the votes to be through this week!)

I don't see anything 'wrong' with it as it raises money for charity. It's a good idea actually.

I doubt that many people vote during the week anyway..I always wait until the night to vote.

The whole format should be redesigned BUT kids would lose out because of the changes and I don't think thats worth it.

My reasons for changing is:

1. Far too much a popularity contest which I wouldn't mind if the celebs didn't put sooooo much effort into it each week.

2. Probably a lot of money doesn't go to CIN that actually should! We ought to know the breakdown rather than them keep saying 'Oh xp per call goes to CIN' and the hidden profitmakers making even more from selling the charity angle.

HOWEVER,

1. Any change and the charity proportion would fall. A great pity.

2. Celebs are probably paid anyway (perhaps from the hidden phone vote profit?). So, while they are putting in great effort, perhaps to be voted off, at least they have all been paid for that 'lost' effort.

So, yes, its NOT fair but TO ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES it achieves the right result.

It's not just SCD that is involved it's all the reality progs...but surely that's why the daily shows are on to keep people interested and voting.... look at Big Brother,I'm A Celebrity etc.
Of course the celebs and the pros are paid...after the 1st series Natasha Kaplinski gave her fee to charity....and reportedly some to Brendan as well but I'm not going there!

hmmm i wouldn't say wrong, but i was wondering why the numbers were up after the results..because what would you base your vote on? still..it's for charity so it's not all bad
