Is the first bit live?
I am sorry as this has probably been asked before, but I did a search and couldn't find anything, anyhoo...
Is the first bit of X-Factor live? I know they sing live, but nowhere does it say the show itself is live. Obivoulsy the results section is live, but is the first bit? I know on a lot of shows the first part is prerecorded with the results live (well on a 10 second delay incase anyone swears, but near enough live!) |

Thanks for bringing this subject up because I was thinking something VERY similar!
Looking back at the review AFTER they have all sung and they show about ten seconds of each of them singing in order I noticed that this was aired accidentally [before] the programme had actually started on ITV1. HOW? Do they edit the review package from the rehearsals? Or do they not actually sing live? Someone must have been in the audience for a 'recording' and give us the answer? Leek |

Interesting.. I had always assumed it was live but now you come to mention it, i do wonder, shows that go out live generally like to make a big deal about it, like saying "its 6.30, we're live.."blah blah
So I suppose its not live, thinking about it I'm sure that sometimes the judges comments are edited as they don't always seem to gel but that might just be because its so contrived.. |

I think you'll find those clips are from the rehearsals. Someone's pointed out an inconsistency with them before.

They do a dress rehearsal on Saturday which is used for all the highlight clips you see at the end of the show - they are all stood in the same place very still on those clips so they must be pre-recorded.
I guess it is these that are shown before the show, if any. |

I was in the audience several times during the last series and all the shows (performance and results) went out "live" with a 10 second delay. The clips shown are specifically recorded during the dress rehearsal for the round-up of performances prior to opening the voting lines. This is the first time this has been used in this country and is taken from AI. I think it's a stupid idea as you really don't get an idea of how they've actually performed on the night and some (Chico last week and Maria the week before) come across particularly unfavourably in them. The flashing lights background is also particularly naff and looks like a cheap 80s video. |

Thanks for clearing that up Ash.
I wasn't so much confused about the clips - i always thought that the show was on a Saturday - just wondered if it was filmed a couple of hrs earlier than shown or something. |

The only thing thats live is the live results!!! the second part of the show. I think the first part of the show is filmed in the afternoon on a saturday the same day as the live results. I think the first part is filmed around 1:00pm maybe in the morning on saturday. Maybe because the singers can have a bit of a break before going live?. Not too sure how its works this is just a guess. You have to go to the offical x-factor website and look for contact and maybe they might answer your question for you, if your lucky.
My friend appeared on a supposed to be live show on ITV called Des & Mel Live last year. He told us that the interviews are filmed late night and its not really live, its just a re-run maybe they call it live so people would tune in to see. If you do please let us know the answer, thanks. |

I think it was last night that I heard the presenter of X Factor Extra (forget his name at the moment) announcing a competition and he said one of prizes was two tickets for the 'recording' of the live show. At the time, I thought I had misheard but after reading this thread perhaps they do record the show earlier in the day.

No, they're not, unless they've changed things from last year............................... or unless I got there six hours late three times last year and imagined a studio full of people. |

You mean Ben Shephard (I can't remember exactly how he spells his surname). He has always used this term, even last year. It does sound like a contradiction, I know - recording of a live show - but then acts are "recorded live" for CDs and DVDs. |

What you see on Saturday ie them SINGING is live.. it may have a delay to it but it is most certainly live.. and when it goes to the break for you at home Simon gets plastered with more makeup and the audience can ask questions and the floor manager picks who can ask, there is no vetting of the questions so they can be pretty funny as the judges have to reply off the cuff so to speak.. shame they are not aired on the TV as some would make good television... the clips show before the phone line votes are just that clips taken from the rehearsal, the audience have the large screens at this point where we see what you are seeing if you like.. hope that makes sense.

You may note, should you choose to read in full what is not a particularly lengthy post, that I did say "unless they've changed things from last year". However I have spoken to the person who got me the tickets on the three occasions I went last year and been told that they haven't changed it this year. |

So what if someone doesn't bother singing the words at all in the live part, would the highlight of the rehearsal appear showing them singing it perfectly.

So we know that the recap clips are taken from the rehearsals! I thought it was strange that someone who performed badly sounded ok in the recap section!
BUT We know that the whole of the programme is live with around a 5 second delay from it happening in the studio to hitting our screens! The only portion that is recorded as-live is the Xtra Factor on ITV2. For the last few weeks it hasn't followed exactly after the programme on ITV1 but they must start recording it and time-shifting it by about 25 minutes. When the ITV2 Xtra Factor starts Ben creeps onto the stage where people are still upset and so must be straight afterwards and played out later on ITV2. Leek |
