Excuse me, but if you don't like Neighbours - don't watch it. You must lead quite a boring and pathetic life if you watch programmes you hate.

You obviously don't get what its about. I found Neighbours fantastic today, it's not everyones cup of tea but if you are going to call it crap, back it up. Your making a fool of yourself really.

And yet, you start a thread on it? If you dislike it why waste time telling the whole world about it? If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Far too many kids. Who gives a toss about Sky and Dylan? Another teenage romance that'll only last 5 minutes..boring. And the whole of the Timmins are just so stupid. It's only worth watching for Joe Mangel and Paul Robinson. They are legends from the days when it was good.

Did anyone else recognise the tune that was played today when Janelle was dreaming? They haven't played this in years. It used to be one of those tunes they would play in sad scenes. They should bring back all the old incidental music!

If it were so crap, it wouldn't have been on our TV screens for nigh-on twenty years. An opinion that it's 'crap' is entirely subjective; One mans poison is another one's chips with gravy and a bit of cod on the side, that sort of thing.

Don't diss Neighbours! It's on a high at the moment, best it's been in ages. Janelle's day dreams are well funny. And how sweet is little Bree? Aww!

Really?! If that's true then they picked right, as Janelle's fantasies are supposed to be a mickey take on The Bold & the Beautiful and The Young & the Restless (2 US soaps for anyone out of the loop.) The music sounds a lot like Y&R's theme tune.

Between the two showings a day I think it gets up to about 5 million.
Actually it averages at about 6 million a day. Give or take.

Watch a week's worth, or two, then decide.

You can't judge it on just one episode, especially today's, as there was no focus on the bigger plotlines that are going on right now.

The point of Neighbours is that it has around 5 or 6 meaty stories going on at once and its focus shifts throughout the week.

Oh, and your 15/16 years must therefore include the mid 90's... and in no way could that be seen as being better than it is now...

Neighbours treats their viewers and actors REALLY, REALLY badly.

In the 80s, Neighbours was a family show aimed at adults. It built up a huge audience which rivalled Coronation Street and EastEnders. The ratings dipped slightly in the late 80s, so they decided to change the entire cast and production around. Loyal viewers could only watch as characters they cared for were axed. Replacements only lasted a year or two and there was no point in getting to know them. Favourites were recast with totally different people. There were 3 Lucys, 2 Codys, 2 Philips, 2 Julies and 2 Debbies.

Most of the 80s cast were either killed off, sent packing or shot. They brought in funkier, new characters and gave the 80s audience, who had stuck with Neighbours for years, the two fingers. Neighbours was now aimed at older kids coming home from school.

In the mid-90s, Neighbours decided to change their audience AGAIN. This time, Neighbours became a slap-stick comedy which is unrecognisable to the programme you watch today. To do this, they axed loads of people and described the change as a ‘test’. This new style was generally aimed at young males and adults. It was very popular in Australia but the British ratings dropped once again.

In the late 90s, Neighbours adopted the present teen romance genre. This was aimed at young females under 16. British ratings improved while Aussie ratings nose-dived. But who cared about the Aussies? More money was made from the UK. Neighbours ignored its past again and again, bringing in younger, crappy actors. By now, older viewers were a myth. Everyone who had liked Neighbours at some point in the past was the finger.

I hear they’re in the process of changing the audience AGAIN. It’s becoming darker and more dramatic from what I’ve heard. Networks say they’re trying to attract older people. To hell with the late 90s kids.

Neighbours creates a false sense of professionalism, when really, it’s created by amateurs and acted by learners. Everything about Neighbours is cheap. Money first, audience later. At least Home and Away looks out for their older viewers.

I beg to differ. I watched Neighbours when it first started in the UK, I grew up watching it, I'm watching it as religiously now as it did in the mid-late 80's.

Neighbours usually gets around 3 million for each episode. And that's each showing, so 3m at 1:40 and 3m at 5:35...

Therefore it's still logical to say that Neighbours gets 6 million viewers, but as a fair chunk of those could watch both episodes you can see why they're counted separately.
