FAQ Q0059 amended to say select '----' as your Model Number on your profile as 9200 is not on the list yet.(Point posted by grannygrunt .)
Edit:.... and comment by rodmac51 added. Q0059: How do I update the software? A0059: See instructions on Page GB70 of the User Manual and the instructions accompanying the download tool. ….plus:- Edit: As per Barry's post below, at this time.......make a note of timers because you will have to input again.) Having got to the page http://www.humaxdigital.com/hcsa then :- - Register or Log-in (Select '----' as your Model Number on your profile as 9200 is not on the list yet.) - Click on 'Software Upgrade'. - Click on 'Download'. - Click on the dropdown box 'Terrestial set-top box' - Click on 'PVR9200-T' (Post 31 by Brian9200T to ‘New Software thread.’) To be honest I have done this so many times now it is second nature, however the instructions on the Humax site are fine, but: - It is advisable to reset to default after the update. .....make a note of timers because you will have to input again. Humax system, status software version changes to: PGXTF 1.00.01 (Post 67 by Barry to ‘New Software thread.) In the update process there are a couple of things that are not obvious, but that might be me just being a bit thick . I'll point them out though, just in case you're as daft as me: 1) You need to download the update file as well as the loader software. This is not obvious from the download instructions and it appears the download tool is all you need. However, tucked away at the very bottom of the download page is the actual update file - very easy to miss! You would have thought they would have made that the first file to download, before the loader tool! 2) In the download instructions it says 'When the message appears on your PC, power on the Humax product ......from the mains'. I took this to mean a message would come up on the PC when it was ready to power on the Humax . Not so. What it actually means is 'When the ABOVE message appears turn on the Humax etc etc. The message in question actually displays on the PC instantly, so don't do like me and wait for another message to appear. Nope you suggested that the "no sound fault" might have something to do with MHEG and I said it didn't - given that I've just read a post from clanchief (here) who's had a machine returned with the latest software and it STILL has the no sound fault it's clear it wasn't fixed by the recent changes and I stick by my original assertion that it's not connected to MHEG. (BTW I've never proposed any suggestion for why "lock ups" occur - it's too broad a subject to be able to conjecture) Cliff |

Ah but there are no sound faults and there are lock-ups. As I understand it loads of folks have suffered from no sound recording (principally a 2nd recording on Mux2) but few have actually had lock-ups.
I am willing to believe however that lock-ups may well be related to something specifically on Mux 2. I know there are DTG standards (DVB-T no less) that define what broadcasters can and can't do but it does seem that ITV/C4 are "pushing the envelope" on Mux2 in an attempt to squeeze in as much purile rubbish as possible by using "unusal" pixel resolutions and boxes do seems to be more sensitive to these things. I can well believe they may be pushing the MHEG capability to the limits to by trying to sell as many holidays and cars as possible and I guess something in that might be related to locked up boxes? (but, then again, it could be one of a million things - which is, I guess, why it's so difficult for Humax to find/fix). Cliff |

New FAQ
(Note: CJL converts these FAQs to a more user friendly format at http://www.ourcottage.plus.com/faq.htm A note to this effect will be added to cumulative Contents list.) FAQ0062: Can I increase the size of the partition for storing MP3s? A0062: (Post 3 by Humax Support to ‘9200T Partition Table’ thread.) The limit is 5Gb and this will stay for now; it may be reviewed in the future to increase the capacity. Unfortunately I cannot confirm if this definitely will be increased. |

New FAQ
Q0063: How do I type in characters not shown on the editing screen, for example to rename a recording? A0063: (Post #3 by tievolu to ‘Renaming Recordings…’ thread 23NOV2005) There's a button marked 'next' at the bottom right of the editing screen (shown on page GB35 of the manual). Press this to go to the next screen of characters, which is lower case. You can do this again to enter all sorts of punctuation and non alphanumeric characters. The 'previous' button brings you back to the uppercase screen again. (Note: CJL converts these FAQs to a more user friendly format at http://www.ourcottage.plus.com/faq.htm.) |

New FAQ
FAQ0064: I am watching and recording an important programme and realise that is running so late that the recording will have stopped! A0064: (Post 2292 by JAK99 to ‘Freeview PVR’ thread 24NOV2005) Recorded the Elgar programme tonight on BBC1 but didn't realise it was running 10 minutes late. I'd padded for three minutes but not 10 ! However, I was aware of the fact that my recording would have stopped and hoped it would all still be in the buffer if I wound back and re-recorded it. I set it to do this and was surprised to see that about 10 minutes later it had stopped, you can hear the curses here! But guess what, in that 10 minutes it had resaved the whole programme to the end (88 minutes). So I have the incomplete version at 80 minutes and now the complete one. I can't think of any other machine that would have allowed me to successfully re-record a broadcast where I'd originally missed the end. |

FAQs 69 to 73.
I will now include 'Problems we are currently living with' in this thread. The outstanding/current ones follow:- FAQ0069: EPG is blank when the machine is first switched on and slow to populate. (post by Tievolu). FAQ0070: Timeslipped program jumps to live broadcast (and dumps buffer) when a scheduled recording of the same program ends.(Post by sdesign.) FAQ0071: Replicable No Sound. FAQ0072: RF passthrough Signal corrupted for 7 seconds when 9200 put in standby. FAQ0073: 'Optical Out connection does not work with MP3s' (Post 1 by ryobi to 'Optical Cable/MP£s.......' thread 20NOV2005) Detail ------- FAQ0069: EPG is blank when the machine is first switched on and slow to populate. (post by Tievolu). A0069: This is the way it currently designed and is being reviewed by Humax. Workaround: Leave box on all the time. Otherwise can be speeded up by initially making main live channel BBC1 and PIP channel ITV1. FAQ0070: Timeslipped program jumps to live broadcast (and dumps buffer) when a scheduled recording of the same program ends.(Post by sdesign.) A0070: Happens on all 9200Ts at present. Try to avoid the situation. FAQ0071: Replicable No Sound. A0071: Happens on all 9200Ts in the specific conditions at present. Try to avoid the situation. (Post 152 by clanchief to 'Replicable No Sound Thread' 22NOV2005…and other posts to same thread.) I had rather hoped that the ‘Replicable No Sound’ thread would become redundant, through the new software update ridding us of this problem, but the Humax list of changes does not mention this fault. I notice that other posters have already reported this fault, with the new software in the new software thread. I have also been able to easily produce it using the new software. For those not familiar with this fault, I suspect that it is present in all boxes, though it only seems to come out in limited circumstances on certain transmitters. For anyone who want to check if their box may occasionally produce "no sound" recordings on second recordings only on Mux2 channels, the most reliable test is to:- 1. start an instant (manual) recording 1 on More4 (ch13) - not near to the end of a program 2. start an instant (manual) recording 2 on E4 (ch14) - again not near to the end of a program 3. allow both recordings to run for one minute 4. stop both recordings 5. play the More4 recording 1 - this will have sound 6. play the E4 recording 2 - if you have the fault this will normally have no sound. I say it will "normally" have no sound, as very occasionally this test produces a recording 2 with sound. I have not yet figured out if this is totally random, or if there is a pattern to this. This is usually not when I have first switched the box on, but later in the day, after I have done other recordings etc. It is possible that some action in using the box can prevent this fault occurring. FAQ0072: RF passthrough Signal corrupted for 7 seconds when 9200 put in standby. A0072: Happens on all 9200Ts at present. Workaround: Don’t put in Standby when others are using the aerial. ________________________________________ RF passthrough Signal corrupted for 7 seconds when 9200 put in standby. (Posts by tejay on 'RF Issues' thread 23NOV2005) - I have had the 9200 for nearly 2 weeks now and have just come across something I had not noticed before, when I put the 9200 into stand by I lose channel 5 on the main TV and on 4 other TVs that are fed through the 9200. I can understand that if the 9200 was switched on that if the R/F output was left in the default setting it would interfere with Ch 5, but I have changed the R/F output to channel 64, and surely this should not cause the lose of CH 5 when in standby, when the 9200 is switched on CH 5 works fine on all TVs. - I now also have my 8000T daisy chained from the 9200T, when I noticed the lose of CH5 I took out a booster that boosts the signal from the 9200T to the loft where another booster distributes the signal to 4 other Freeview boxes, I then noticed that not only did I not get CH 5 on analogue but also lost all the ITV channels on Freeview, unlike you I still received the BBC channels, - When the 8000T was the first unit in the chain without the additional booster the other Freeview boxes still received all the muxs. It does appear that its not only CH34/35 thats effected? - It lasts around 7 seconds, and it can be annoying as I could be recording on the 8000T upstairs, I think the thing that gets me is that it shouldn't do it FAQ0073: 'Optical Out connection does not work with MP3s' (Post 1 by ryobi to 'Optical Cable/MP£s.......' thread 20NOV2005) A0073: Happens on all 9200Ts at present. Workaround: Use the RCA connections |
