1. Looks fine.
2. After a while I started putting the 'Source' at the start as someone pointed out that it was looking as though I had all the problems personally.
3. I first started referring to threads by the name of the person doing the first post. However people started more than one thread so I used the name of the thread. Even that is a bit messy as many people start with HUMAX or 9200T maing it harder to pick out the main point.
4. I only put as much of the start of the thread name as needed to identify it on the list of threads sometimes a bit more to get the main point in.
5. I made the numbers 4 figures so the length does not change for the forseeable future.
6. I wandered between calling them questions and FAQs and still do.
7. What do you do when a question fits more than one category? Show it in all of them? Can a search be made of all the FAQs?
8. I aim not to appear as an authority. The authority comes from the sources and is only as good as they are. By quoting the source I give credit where due and allow the reader to check for themselves.

Congrats.

Brian. I think you did a fantastic job getting the FAQ up and running. It's a great resource. I also appreciate that it's quite a lot of work to maintain, which is why I didn't want to volunteer . I was only trying to add a little constructive criticism in the hope of making it even better.

Whisper's version is pretty much what I had in mind. It looks great. Definitely one to bookmark.

Well done whisper, I like your site, it is well laid out and easy to find any feature that the user may be searching for. I know that you have been working hard at this site, and I think it now should be the first port of call for anyone on this thread if they need to find out about the 9200T. Of course, not forgetting the work and contributions by Brian and Cliff as well.

FAQ0071 Extended to add Post 183 by grannygrunt to 'Replicable No Sound' thread 2DEC2005

FAQ0071: Replicable No Sound.
A0071: Happens on all 9200Ts in the specific conditions at present. Try to avoid the situation.

(Post 152 by clanchief to 'Replicable No Sound Thread' 22NOV2005…and other posts to same thread.)
I had rather hoped that the ‘Replicable No Sound’ thread would become redundant, through the new software update ridding us of this problem, but the Humax list of changes does not mention this fault. I notice that other posters have already reported this fault, with the new software in the new software thread. I have also been able to easily produce it using the new software.

For those not familiar with this fault, I suspect that it is present in all boxes, though it only seems to come out in limited circumstances on certain transmitters.

For anyone who want to check if their box may occasionally produce "no sound" recordings on second recordings only on Mux2 channels, the most reliable test is to:-

1. start an instant (manual) recording 1 on More4 (ch13) - not near to the end of a program

2. start an instant (manual) recording 2 on E4 (ch14) - again not near to the end of a program

3. allow both recordings to run for one minute

4. stop both recordings

5. play the More4 recording 1 - this will have sound

6. play the E4 recording 2 - if you have the fault this will normally have no sound.

I say it will "normally" have no sound, as very occasionally this test produces a recording 2 with sound. I have not yet figured out if this is totally random, or if there is a pattern to this.

This is usually not when I have first switched the box on, but later in the day, after I have done other recordings etc. It is possible that some action in using the box can prevent this fault occurring.

Post 183 by grannygrunt to ‘Replicable No Sound…’ thread 02DEC2005 giving a concise summary.

………………….. All of us who have ended up coming to the conclusion that Mux 2 is causing both the no sound problem and lock ups have not said that it is just when you use instant record, but we have realised that it usually involves a channel from this mux. You were recording More 4 from Mux 2, then tried to record something from another Mux. Result, no sound. This problem is very hard to pin down, but always involves a channel being recorded on Mux 2 and ...... you have proved is that it doesn't necessarily have to be an instant recording, or the second recording. …………..

Please quote the source of your information and leave me to assign the FAQ number to avoid clashes.
Could the barrier be the official 5 gigabytes rather than the number of jpegs?

Sorry for breaking the etiquette, too excited about getting my new 9200. I've created a proper thread to discuss further.

FYI: It's not the 5GB limit as I've no mp3s on there and the 1024 jpegs take up less than 1GB. It could be a file system limitation. Anyway it caused me a serious problem and I may have to refomat the disk. See the thread for more info:

I originally had trouble retaining my chosen favourites list when moving to and from EPG. I found out by accident you have to click OK before leaving EPG after having changed the favourite group - as follows:

To change to a favourite list and retain this favourite list as the default you need to go to the EPG, use the Red button to set the group to your favourite list, then when you return to the EPG, press OK again before leaving the EPG. If you do not press the OK button, the new favourite list is not retained as the default.

Brian - you may want to add this to the FAQs if it hasn't been documented so far. I think a few people have had problems with this.

New FAQs

FAQ0075: What are the limits on MP3 storage?
A0075: 5 gigabytes, possibly 1024 files. Still not definitive but beta copied as FAQ number published.

FAQ0076: When I switch the group of channels to be shown in the Guide it reverts back to the previous group next time?

A0076: Post 185 by phillbo to this FAQ thread.

To change to a favourite list and retain that favourite list as the default you need to:-
- Go to the EPG,
- Red button
- Set the group to your favourite list and return to the EPG,
- Press OK (If you do not press the OK button, the new favourite list is not retained as the default. )
- Press EXIT to leave the EPG.

( Do not during this operation, also click on a program entry to record it or the switch to default won’t take place. Brian9200T)

Phew!!

I was wondering when someone else would take on the arduous job of maintaining an HTML'd FAQ.

Well done whisper for volunteering.

I'll just change my page to link to yours. Have fun.

New FAQ

FAQ0077: Where is the serial number and how can I recognise it?
A0077: (Post 2327 by sarah to ‘Freeview PVR…’ thread on 30NOV2005)
On the underside of the box. It is 14 digits long starting with 61600… for example
61 6000619 01024.
Write it on your warranty booklet together with the model number.
Do not trust any numbers printed elsewhere as the packing may have been swapped at some time.

New FAQ

FAQ0078: How do I delete all the files in Partition D1(Image/Mp3) or Partition D2(Recorded Programmes) if there is something wrong preventing normal deletion?

A0078: (Posts by nyet to 'JPEG Limit Problem' thread 4-7Dec2005.)

- Connect to PC
- Run Elinker
- Select Partition using dropdowm menu in top rh corner.
- Click on 'File' dropdown menu in top LH corner.
- Click on FORMAT
- When it say 'Are You Sure?' say Yes.
(The Format may not be a Format in the PC sense but just a 'Delete All'.)

New FAQ

FAQ0079: Topup TV signal and recording problems.

A0079:Post 1 by grannygrunt to 'Everyone with TOPUP TV ' thread 9DEC2005.)
Just found out from Top Up this morning that anyone who changes their box whilst subscribing to Top Up TV should let them know as the signal needs to be changed for different makes of boxes. Before owning the 9200T, we had a Thompson Box, and I had been getting break up on the picture on Top Up channels on the Humax, and a recording on TCM (scarface) only recorded for about 10 secs. I hadn't let Top Up know that we were now using a different box, and when I contacted them this morning, found out that the signal needed updating for the Humax. Just had to leave it on Ch 5 for a while. So I said that as I wasn't aware of this, and perhaps others might not be either, would let everyone know on forum.

Brian

you've asked for the "what bugs are we currently living with" thread to be closed, and for bugs to be included in the FAQ. But, your FAQ does not list all known bugs!

I'd particularly draw your attention to the "lost all recordings" bug, for which I've started a new thread here , and which is also described in this thread by:

SimonHuttToo
quexex
nutso
junkpuppets
sarahinalrewas
Lolo 12
Mrcupcake
videoJunkie

Believe me, losing all your recordings is a major bug.

..............or it is a faulty box. I can't treat faulty boxes as FAQs or there would be too many. I have been reading the thread but no case seems to have reached a conclusion with Humax.

If any of the problems is replicable or recurring on more than one box yet Humax are not replacing the boxes concerned then post the details here as that would seem to qualify it.

I will need some details as an FAQ saying 'Lost recordings, it happens and you have to put up with it .' would not be helpful.

I disagree. It is useful to know what bugs there are that don't have any known workaround.

I take your point about the possibility that I have a faulty (as opposed to buggy) box. But at least 9 people posting on the Humax forum have experienced the same thing. I don't know how many people post on this forum, but I suspect this represents a pretty high failure rate.

Please define 'The same thing' so that I can say that if people do it then they will lose recordings. 9 boxes with the same fault would not be surprising and could easily be replaced.

I meant the same symptom. I don't think anyone knows how to reproduce the problem. 9 boxes (10 now) is a lot. I'd guess that there aren't more than a couple of hundred people who read this forum, so the failure rate is 1/20 per 6 weeks. I.e. one per 120 weeks. This gives a mean time to failure of just over two years.

New FAQ. Need pointed out by mfmf in Post 191 above. Refers to threads 'Lost all recordings' and 'Problem with lost recordings'.

FAQ0080: Lost all the recorded programmes from hard disk although the Hard Disk space is still shown as used. Powering off and a factory reset does not recover them.

A0080: At present this does not seem to be a general problem. Ring Humax support and ask for it to be replaced, or return it to seller for refund.

Whisper....

Please can you arrange your web version so that the user can search for a word among all the FAQs at once?

Possibly using the FIND function on the EDIT menu of Internet explorer.

Do you mean a new sub-section of the qa page that lists all the questions of this thread in cronological order?
The Edit>Find is a function of IE or Firefox not the html code. At the moment with my limited knowledge of html, cannot add a search function to the page.

Yes, putting a complete additional set on one page would do it leaving the user to use the Edit>Find function to search for a word or phrase which would hopefully lead to a relavant FAQ.

It would not mean much extra work if you just 'copy' and 'paste' the whole questions with answers from their existing locations.

The need arises because with the best will in the world some problems do not fit into a clear category.

Thanks.
