At the begining of BB a friend commented that the Mirror would not be running BB stories this year.

Twice in the last week I have found a copy on the tube, and each time it has had a page filled with BB info with a "sneer" every few paragraphs (as well as splashes of "the mirror -the ant-bb newspaper")

I take it they have now decided to give it full coverage with a biased look so they can still describe themselves as anti-BB. It was really amusing to read, as they were giving info the readers obviously wanted, with the odd "isn't it all pathetic" sentence thrown in!

But at least it makes a good substitute for toilet paper !!!

I do read the Mirror, and since the start they have run their "Official Anti-Big-Brother Paper" columns... they can be funny at times, and it's still a good newspaper.

The Mirror had decided before BB3 even started to slate it - The first Anti-BB article came on Saturday 26th, when in order for it to be written, the HM's had probably been in the house less than 5 hours. How anyone can judge by that time, I dont know.

They just try to gage (sp?) what the public reaction will be, and go with it. Unfortunately, it has now backfired on them in spectacular fashion, and they are HAVING to include BB articles, probably because they were losing readers, big style. But the articles have such a bitter theme, it doesnt make for good reading.

People ARE watching Big Brother this year, and enjoying it, albeit for different reasons than before. The number of people voting last night only proved that.

I think the Mirror would do well to remember that its just a trashy tabloid, like the rest of them.

Thanks to the joys of the internet you can read the BB articles in the Sun and Mirror without actually having to pay for the papers, or hunting out abandoned copies on the tube. The Mirror's has had just as much coverage of BB this year as the Sun, but it's all written in a sneering style, which seems spectacularly misjudged. The only people who will be interested in reading the articles are people who watch the show so constantly insulting them for watching the program doesn't seem a good way to keep readers.

Maybe they believe people who watch BB like to disaprove of (other) people who watch BB. It seems to work for this forum.

I'd be interested why you think they're losing readers 'big style'. According to the latest Independant press industry statistics, they are still gaining readers whilst The Sun (pro BB) is losing them. This dates back as far as the 'War on Terror' when the Mirror reported with sensible journalism whilst the Sun splashed "Queen has a rubber duck!" all over it's front page.

People just don't buy newspapers to read about BB, and personally even as a fan I find The Mirror's articles funny. The Mirror is doing a nice job of ditching the 'red top' image (not least, getting rid of the red top), and the journalism standard is continually improving, as the industry-wide recognition they are recieving shows.

The Mirror's moving up to compete for Mail and Express readers, whilst The Sun is falling to Daily Sport Levels.. and personally, I like it that way.

Only kidding. Seriously though, I do think (Big Brother aside), the Mirror seem to have ideas above their stations.

I don't work for The Mirror, and I didn't read it (or any newspaper) until about 6 months ago, but I have read The Mirror 6 days a week since then, and have noticed the change in style during this time...

You mean they have the ability to read not just look at pictures.

The problem with certain papers is that unless your names are Tony & Cherie they don't want to know you. Plus they get upset when more people vote for big brother evictions than vote for them in an election.

No, I mean that , for instance, The Sun and the Daily Mail are both similar newspapers, aimed at different sections of society. They're both obnoxiously offensive, and filled with some of the worst journalists imaginable.

So how can you compare it to other newspapers then?

Because over the last six months, at both work and college I have read other newspapers without buying them... as much as one can read The Sun anyway, I always had trouble findind the articles amongst the pictures.

Lame attempts at trying to tell the weak minded what they think.

I used to read this paper too, as a fill in for something to read. But now this paper just leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Their attitude towards the HM's has been unforgiveable. Their opinions, written to rebel, are spiteful and irrelevant.

I'm a Big Brother fan, obviously, or else i wouldn't be posting on this board, but I find the Daily Mirror BB columns to be very funny.

They basically take the pish out of the HM's (something that the majority of us do anyway) and have a bit of fun with the whole thing. All they do is publish what a lot of us think.

And the fact is any publicity is good publicity. Just enjoy it.

And in response to the previous posts anti Mirror slurs:
The Mirror IS NOT anti-government, it shows both sides of the argument and refuses to accept everything Blair and his associates do wholesale, unlike the sychophantic Sun and Daily Mail.
Since September 11th, the Daily Mirror has become the most reasoned, well intentioned, respectable tabloid on the market, and it has won numerous awards because of this.
It is anti-Hislop, but then again so should we all be, he is a self important bastard with the looks of a foetus.

I find it outstanding that you have the confidence to support this rag in public. Unfortunately you support it very poorly which is probably due to the wine you have consumed tonight.

There is no doubt this is an Anti-everything paper. But what really bugs me is that they make no effort to report the factual news but rather concentrate all their minimal efforts on petite slander and victimisation.

Summary: Shit paper attracting the easily led.

I don't read the Mail, and wouldn't allow the evil, rabid right-wing rag in the house but to suggest it's sycophantic to the Government is just bizarre.

Small point, i'm actually a journalist (and no, i don't work for the Mirror) and know what constitutes quality journalism.

You, on the other hand, seem to have a personal problem with the paper (are you Naomi Campbell?) which you can only express by labelling it as 'shit'.

If it is that 'shit' why does it have the largest tabloid circulation, beating the tawdry rags of Rupert Murdoch?

I'm not quite sure what your problem is, but if you actually read the Mirror and put your petty quibbles aside you would find it to be the most informative and factual paper on the stands.
