read somewhere that the sky stuff was dissapointing (wouldn't answer any decent questions about dates, prices etc with specific answers, the boxes were locked away in drawers so nobody could see them, pc displays of HD content) Xbox stuff was supposed to be quite good (PDZ, PGR and call of duty 2 all being playable), but apparently the blu ray team really put in alot of effort with a good display thats worth checking out |

Sky was disapointing in the sense it was only showing HD pictures on a number of screens (which many stands were doing). You couldn't play with the interface, try pausing etc. The boxes were on display but you could only see the front as they were framed behind glass. I asked what the hard drive size would be but was told that they don't know. They added that 'recordings will be in Mpeg 4 so it will be big'. Pretty useless information really.
XBox was there but only a couple of consoles. Didn't look that impressive. The shows (What Hifi and Best of Stuff) were based mainly round Media Center and High Definition. I think that the highlight of the show was SIM2 C3X projector. Amazing picture quality - better than CRT or HD plasma. Especially considering the screen was 10ft wide. One problem, the setup costs around £20,000 will screen and additional lenses. |

hi all.
i went to london show. the sky hd box was on show, but it did not impress me at all. i asked when will sky hd be starting.the sky person said it will be march 2006.he did say,the box would be about 500-800 pounds, and the subscription would be about 25.00 month.butit would not be compatible with itv or bbc hd. so i not going to bother for at least 2007,until i know all systems will work together. the playstation 3 rocks. |

"not compatible with bbc hd"? That doesn't make sense, since there's no BBC HD to be compatible with. If the BBC goes HD it'll be viewable to Sky viewers no doubt about that. Also it's a bit of an odd thing for a marketeer to say!

Not announced at the show, but the Sky HD box will have a 300GB drive and the service is set to launch in February not March - all info from a presentation that Sky made recently. Doubtless it will be used for the BBC HD trials next year.
I found it amusing that the best picture on the Sky HD stand was on the smallest TV there. The projector which had apparently been shipped in from China for the show can't have been set up properly as the result was very poor. I too was impressed by the 360, but I can wait til next year to get one. |
