Connect Laptop to HD LCD TV?
Got Samsung 32"LCD TV fully HD ready with HDMI and DVI. I would like to know what is the best way to connect my HP Pavilion Laptop to it so that I can use all my High definition demos on the hard drive downloaded off the net to see what it looks like.
Any ideas of wha connection is best and where to get the leads from? |

Ok first things first, what output connectors does it have? It'll probably have a VGA out and maybe a TV out. The TV out probably won't be good enough but the main thing you need to know is if the graphics chip in the laptop can support high resolutions. xxxx X 720 will probably be okay but you'll be lucky to get 1080. A lot of card stop at xxxx X 1024

Get a VGA-DVI converter and a DVI lead, let Windows autodetect the LCD TV.
You should get a list of resolutions for a second monitor (the TV) with the suitable HDTV resolutions (ie 1280x720). |

There's no point in outputting 1900 by 1080 if this monitor doesn't support it (which it doesn't). Outputting the monitors native resolution is always the best option and using a programme like powerstrip to provide custom resolutions for the screen is a good idea.

Connect Laptop to HD LCD TV?
My laptop is 1024x728 resolution. I have connected them with s video and have also used a monitor cable between the laptop and the PC connection on the TV. The s video is blurred but the monitor cable is superb. An absolute great picture. However when I run the HD demos via Windows Media Player 10 you get a superb picture on the laptop in WMP but the demo is not displayed but the rest of Windows is. Why can't I see these HD demos working on my HD TV?

The reason why the Svideo is blured is because you can't put HD signals over it.
If you can see windows on the LCD, even the play buttons on WMP but a black square where the picture should be then it's probably an overlay issue. Tvout is a funny thing. My Geforce 4400MX was great, it showed the video and just the video on the TV. With my Ati700 I have to drag WMP onto the TV and then go fullscreen. On the plus side the quality is much better |
