Just in case people looking on digital spy have seen reference to TAP - Topfield Application Program, and not known quite what that is...

Its a program someone (a user just like you, who knows a language called C) has written to extend the functionality of a Toppy. This is possible because Topfield publish detailed technical information on how the machine works and they provide the means to add these extra functions to the Toppy.

These sites below contain some of the TAPs that are available. Some TAPs work on only the Aussie Toppy (TF5000) but lots work just fine on the UK Toppy (TF5800).

A big list and growing !!!

Yep, and lest there be any confusion - some people seem to get them mixed up - TAPs are totally distinct from firmware updates.

Topfield themselves continue to update the firmware and provide bug fixes; TAPs don't replace or modify the core bits of your Toppy, and installing them doesn't affect the warranty.

A few more bits of info:

Instaling Taps:
Download the Tap, and after reading any instructions copy to the Toppy.
On the toppy press the archive ( library) button then press >> to cycle through recorded programs/mp3s and then Taps, highlight the Tap and press OK, the Tap will then start.
If you like the Tap you can highlight it, press Yellow, then select move to folder, move it to one called auto start and the Tap will start with the toppy

You can transfer TAPs to your Toppy via the USB port only. I presume by 'Oat' you mean over the air. That's not possible for TAPs - OTA updating is for firmware, and TAPs are not firmware.

You're not, however, restricted to PCs running Windows for loading TAPs. You can also use Linux or Mac systems to do it too.

Do I need any software to copy the TAP to the Toppy?

I did not get any software with my topfield.

Will Windows explorer just see the toppy as another drive and I put it on the root drive?

Sorry, I have not read the manual fully yet, and I was browsing these threads.
