Wouldn't it have been great if when they opened the second envelope it said "Big Brother told you to expect the unexpected and the two HM's you chose to face the public vote will NOT be up for the vote, but ALL the other HM's will be up fro eviction this week"

Anyway it's done now although it's a shame we spend more time talking about how crap this years BB has been and how bad the tasks/producers are as opposed to whats actually going on in the house.

What they should have done was to ensure that the decision on which 2 Hms got the family message/up for eviction was NOT decided on chance (like drawing straws or whatever method they indeed used).
It should have been a group discussion, out in the open with all HMs present, with a definative decision made by the group on the 2 to be chosen. That would have caused more friction and would have allowed the group to choose the evictee nominations based on their feelings, and not just chance. A very tough task for the HMs to do granted, but at this stage in the game "life should be a bitch".
I would think this was BB's intention, however the rules were not "tight" enough.
(I'm gutted that Jade is not nominated !!)

This task was soooooooooooooo lame.

This year's taskmaster should be given the boot quickly.

If BB had wanted a real sacrifice what they *should* have done is the following:

As soon as the task starts housemates must not talk to each other.

Explain to the housemates that they will one-by-one go into the diary room and be asked if they personally agree to be up for eviction on Friday

They have a free choice - yes I will agree to be up for eviction, or no I won't. They must keep their answer secret in the same way that they must not talk about nominations.

Before the process begins it will also be explained to the group that if *all* housemates agree to be up for eviction then the bars will come down. If some refuse to be up for eviction, then the bars will stay.

It will also be explained that if some refuse and the bars remain, then those that refuse to be up for eviction will
be put on the poor side, those that agree will be put on the rich side. Those that refuse to be put up for eviction will get the message from home, those that agree to eviction will not get their message.

Start the task...

Each housemate has to decide in silence:

Do I...

a) Agree to eviction, lose my message but end up rich for a week ? I also hope everyone else chooses this because we lose the damn bars.

b) Refuse eviction, I am safe for another week, I get a message from my loved ones but am also poor for a week. I also know that I am personally responsible for keeping the bars.

We can watch in glee as the cowards ( Tim ) and the not so bright ( Jade ) keep the bars for another week and invoke the wrath of the others.

I think that the reason why there was no 'leaking' of this weeks task like their usually is, was because the producers didn't decide what they were going to do until the last minute. Notice how the official site asked US what we thought the sacrifice was going to be? In fact it asked us to e-mail the producers to tell them what 'we think' the sacrifice will entail. I think they were seeking out advice. The whole thing was a farce.

think you may be right about the last minute detail... we always get a leak for a well planned task. This one just went totally wrong imo. So we have 2 ppl for eviction based on a draw of a scrap of card with a chocolate stain on it!!!! How original BB and what great viewing that was... we were kept enthralled for ages as you held Alex captive in the diary room just to eek out extra time to fill the half hour show!!!! The task took, oh, about a minute would you guys say? Blithering idiots of producers... let heads roll on Monday morning after the executives have had an emergency meeting on what the hell was going on Saturday night!

I like the way you think bebop, but Jade would have to hold her hand in boiling chip fat to spare us the sight of her naked.

Except Jade, who has to stand in front of the dart board "William Tell" style with an apple on her head. Hey, that'd make a great task!

They should have just said in envelope one that the two housemates chosen got to watch their videos. Then, once they'd chosen the two, they open envelope two and it says,oh by the way these two housemates are also up for eviction all week!

OR, in envelope 2 they could have said that the two housemates up for eviction had to choose a THIRD person who would be evicted on Sunday (today). If they didn't do that, then ALL the HMs would be up for eviction. Or they would have to go without booze, cigs and hot water for a week. Or something like that.

Yes....who would PJ and Kate have chosen? Jade if they'd any sense, or Tim since he hasn't been up for eviction yet.

That would have been so much funnier than what they ended up with. Then again, pretty much every alternative scenario to what they ended up with would have been better.

I like the idea of the second envelope holding a sting in the tail. It is good for the atmosphere (the pressure) IMO if the HMs learn to never quite trust BB.

Big Brother is not called Big Mother. BB sets the rules pretty much as and when "he " chooses.

My alternative scenarios with a twist.

1) "The housemates must between them select two HMs to come to the diary room. The selected housemates will each nominate one housemate to be put to the public vote for eviction next week."

So you have to choose two of your number whom, once in there get to choose someone else. How could the group have resolved that? It may well have had to come down to a lottery again: but the tension on the two who had to make the choice (and the responses of the others when they heard the nominations) would have been priceless.

2) A minor variation with another twist would have been that the HMs nominated one person for eviction next Friday BUT that that person was to get to choose who they stood for eviction against (in the privacy of the diary room). I would love to know, of all the HMs, which specific individual they felt they had most chance against: would it be Jade for all of them, or Tim?

Comments ... can I take over from the BB producer? ;o)

I would suggest that the HMs should have been given the opportunity to add the person who went to the diary room to the vote in exchange for the rest of them getting to see their messages.

I think that the HG's should have come to their decision last night quite simply as follows:

(a) Each HG takes 2 scraps of paper
(b) set aside 6 areas on the table/6 cups/whatever, one for each of the 6 HG's
(c) One at the time, the HG's place their votes (either with or without watching each other)
(d) Count the results
(e) Top 2 up for eviction
(f) In the event of a draw amongst several, those people draw lots

Much fairer! (and more hope of Tim going, more importantly).

They have to play Russian Roulette like "Deer Hunter" ! The two housemates left without their brains blown out, get a £400 shopping budget for the week and are up for eviction on Friday.

All the production crew should have just gone home for the week leaving the HMs wonderingwhat had happened!! No-one to talk to in the diary room, no-one talking over the tannoy, no shopping, and if any of the HMs went outside to see what had happened it would be completly deserted!!

Hi

I'm amazed that no-one else picked up on this, but it
was so obvious that Tim CHEATED when drawing out the
slips of paper that decided who was put up for
eviction.

If you watch it back, it was his idea to use the
marked bits of paper (rather than the 'short straw'
idea), he then made sure that HE put the blank pieces
in first and the 2 marked ones on top, then he held
the hat tight with his hand (so the pieces of paper
stayed in the same order) then shook it up. He then
opened the hat and asked the others to pick one out
first - and the first 2 out, PJ and Kate, were the
ones who got the marked pieces of paper and were then
nominated. He drew his out last, knowing by then that
the 2 losers had already been drawn.

The fact that he made a point of asking the rest if
the draw was fair and above board showed that he
thought somebody may have sussed him. Even Johnny
later asked if the drawing of the lots had been
kosher.

I reckon that I'm right, what do you think? If he did
cheat, what will be his punishment?

That would have been good....but the first housemate picked should not be allowed to tell the others who they picked! So the second person up for the public vote does not know that they are....that way they'd all be terrified on Friday night.

I thought this was what had happened!

When they started showing the videos and Jonny screamed "THATS MY MAM YOU GOT IT WRONG" I thought, hang on?

Big Brother said they would play the people up for evictions tapes, when Jonnys was playing it hit me. THE OTHERS ARE UP FOR EVICTION NOT PJ AND KATE! But it was too good to be true

( wormy little impostor )

I agree with you rev, although i didnt see the masonic shake of the bag, I was perturbed by the fact that the first two picks resulted in K & PJ effectively being nominated. quick thinking on his part but obviously a bloody cheat (well he did used to sell insurance!)! big brother should be renamed because despite numerous cameras, they dont seem able to pick these things up like big brother would. I still think BB hashed the whole thing, it just didnt pan out as expected.
