Stupid qusetion I know, but for complicated reasons, is it possible to send a analogue modem signal (ie, a fax machine, the UK TiVo daily dial out) over a VoIP connection.

I know there'll be other, better Network options available, but I'd just like to know if it's possible to get a connection using the old screaming demon.

Yes it is possible, but no provider supports it. I've used fax before with no problems. Your max speed will probably be 28.8 but then I'm guessing you're not bothered about speed reading between the lines?

Thanks!

You've hit the nail on the head, not that bothered about speed.

You say it is possible, but no provder supports it? I don't understand - does it just work but no-one OFFICALLY publicises the fact?

Could I plug my TiVo/Fax into a VoIP router and mange to dial out using Sipgate, FreeTalk or any of the other providers?

I haven't managed to get my Sky box to dial out over Sipgate.

It's often hit-and-miss, it all depends on the compression you use on the router and what compression the VOIP company supports. My advice is to get hold of a router and find a VOIP company who supports lots of different modes of compression and experiment.

Any recommendations? And how much do they charge for 0800 calls?
