Dennis Rickman & His Bag
Dennis and his trusty bag should have it's own show, the amount of times it has taken centre stage. I will be glad to see the back of Nigel Harman. He never did set the show alight with his amazing acting skills

It's a naff black empty holdall - or is it? Perhaps it's like Mary Poppins' bag and one day he'll amaze us with what's inside.

Dennis is one the worse characters in the shows history, lacking any substance whatsoever. The sulky Dennis, which Grant mentioned, seems to have become a joke but thats either down to the poor acting ability of Harman or just bad writing. I think of mixture of both as the character is annoyingly repetitive.

I agree the bloke can't act. The only thing that has kept him in the show is the makers not being able to re-cast or write him out credibly, and the fact that loads of women go weak at the knees when they look at him. You can tell playing a hard man for him is playing against type as Nigel Harman looks about as tough as a bag of candy floss.
His dalek impersonations in the episode Dirty Den came back were particularly bad. And yes he looks a kernob with that man bag. |

During the Stacey/Dennis scene, I was watching Stacey the whole time.
Whereas Stacey came across as a human being just like you and me, Dennis was more like the Terminator, unable to do anything more than sulk, look serious, and err...look serious. He often sounds like one of the Agents from the Matrix movies. "Mr. Allen, surprised to see me?"

Actually, on a serious note (which will shock most people - me being serious
)EE always seem to have one 'pretty' bloke. It must be policy these days. It used to be Jamie, then the erm, baton passed to Dennis and soon enough it will pass to this Deano character. |

Perhaps it is from his trusty bag that he will pull out a performance.... OR
He will climb into it at Christmas and someone will zip it up and Sharon puts the bag in a cupboard... OR ......

One day, someone may write a small thesis on the use of D Rickman's bag as a plot point. It is indeed a very handy device for cutting out unnecessary dialogue in order to move the story forward. Last week, the bag had one of its best moments so far - although offstage at the point when Pat lectured Dennis in the bookie's, it was fully featured during his entrance into the Vic, and in his swift exit, having seen Grant give Sharon a reasonably chaste kiss.
Using the bag as a signifier for action and reaction, several minutes were saved and put to other use - without our heroic luggage item, we would have needed another scene with Dennis and Pat in the bookie's, with him saying something along the lines of "Egads! Truly I have seen the error of my ways! I must at once return to my true-hearted wifelet!" before bounding across to the Vic, and trotting hopefully up to the bar - where, confronted by the sight of Grant and Sharon in the corridor beyond, he is forced into dramatic aside, muttering "Oh no! Fie and forfend! I see a viper in the bosom of our marriage, and must now scowlingly leave this scene!" See? Much easier to use his bag as dramatic metaphor, when you think about it.

Maybe the bag is secretly in love with Sharon's black jacket and they will have an 'explosive' exit at new year?
