Who's NOT having problems with the 9200?

Was thinking of buying the 9200 but am a bit wary what with all the tales of lockups, recordings with no sound, missed recordings, clocks losing time, etc.

Obviously people are more likely to post when they are having problems so is there anybody who has not encountered any problems with this box? If so - where did you buy it and how long have you been using it?

Thanks...

I don't think any user can say they are not having problems but many are still satisfied that it is the best there is for the money.

Perhaps better to ask for people who wish they hadn't bought it and why.

Edit: I have had one lock up and now keep the box on all the time. I am satisfied . It does the main job well. It does more than I expected.

Had mine more than two weeks - only one day behind t'other Barry, who was first in (sorry Jimooo!). Came from Turbosat, not the absolute cheapest, but very responsive and people you can phone and talk to.

No lockups, no soundless recordings, clock keeps time. Only missed recordings were scheduled radio recordings with box left on standby - and we know now that's a flaw. For me all other complaints have reasonably acceptable work-arounds. No regrets!

My experience of the 9200t is almost identical to youngbaz, except I bought mine from the first batch to arrive "instore" at Comet. In addition, it seems to work well with TUTV.

My only reservation is that if you were hoping the USB2 port would be a fast way of backing up to DVD via a PC, I'd think again.

I'm a user and I haven't had any problems. I haven't tried some of the things that people are having problems with admittedly (recording radio from standby for example) but everything I've tried with my 9200T in the past week has been successful. This includes recording, time shifting, pausing and generally mucking about with the trick viewing functions. Every recording has worked perfectly and I've had no lock-ups. (Fingers crossed and touch wood that this continues says he, after tempting the malicious gods of digital mayhem ... )

I did have a couple of minor issues on day 1; ITV reception was dodgy for an hour but people reported the same issue with other boxes so I'm putting that down to ITV and not the box and my display went B&W for a few minutes but I suspect I had a SCART cable not properly seated.

Nearly no probs.

Had it for about 5 days, Very happy with it and i do think some of the issues and problems are being blown out of proportion.

It looks good, the remote is decent, not perfect but good and

I have had a few crashes on schedule recordings (on about 4 of the 30 recordings i've set)... when i have played them back there has been a hard disk error the playback cradshed and reboot within seconds and then played out fine???

Anyone still sitting on the fence so just jump in and get one and find out for yourself if it meets your needs, you can always return it.

Martin,
Threads on these forums would not really help you to get a balanced view, as this is the place to come if you have a problem, not to anounce on a regular basis that the PVR or TV is still working.

There are some issues that Humax are looking into (see other threads for a catch up on the main issues).

What these threads are excellent for is doing your research, like you are doing, to find out what are the current issues that:

a) affects all machines like functionality limitations, software glitches or bugs

b) only affect some, and what to do about them (swap it for a normal one, or look up a workaround in the threads etc)

I bought the Humax from Comet on the 20th October and what I like about it is it is stable and reliable. The build quality and picture quality score top marks. I have had no problems with the Humax, just like my Fusion. So regardless of what people come here to say about Fusions or any other PVRs I am convinced that the majority work fine and the problem ones/owners concentrate towards threads like these to discuss their problem issues with fellow owners and enthusiasts.

The major limitations for me about the Humax are 3 things:
a) you cant start watching a recording from the start before it has finished recording - DVD recorders can do that.
b) a convenient feature is the recorder buffers the channel you are on so you can pause/rewind etc but it will stop the buffer if you switch away from the channel into the menu or onto another channel
c) EPG take a long time to populate (freeview 7 day EPG thing not necesserily a Humax fault)

Humax have said that they will look into sorting a) and c) with a view of putting the EPG stored on the hard disk. With item b) I just think that there are two tuners so why cant you flick without loosing the buffer on one. My Fusion buffers both tuners anyway. Nothing from Humax on that although they may not have been asked.

If they deal with the above, as well as any software fixes/enhancements that become necessary, then this would go from being a solid PVR now to one that pretty much does everything you most people would want in one machine.

My recomendations recently have been: Fusion 200 or Humax 9200t. Expect them to be good purchases - if something doesnt work you would take them back wouldnt you? If you have a bit more money to spend why not look at the Topfield as it seems to tick so many boxes?

I bought mine on 20th October and so far...

1) No lock-ups (but i watch virtually nothing on ITV which seems to be causing them)

2) Only one missed recording which could either have been because I tried to record 2 consecutive programs (Bleak House & Blessed) and padded both (which I now know not to do) or me not actually setting it to be recorded in the first place (which is possible)

3) My only niggle is when I tried to edit a recording it made the sound go stuttery for the first few seconds after the edit, but not the end of the world as I can't see me ever wanting to edit the files.

I'm very satisfied with it, but I have come from a VCR rather than another PVR so I'm probably easily pleased

Proper chase play and auto padding (or not losing the programme name if you pad manually) would be nice but certainly don't make me regret buying it

Regards

David

That is a surprisingly high rate of crashes.

No problems at all, other than it doesn't do this or it doesn't do that. All programs recorded as per epg and no crashes. Very happy with it, but being able to set up some auto padding would be great.

Had mine ages too. As far as boxes like this go I think that "out of the box" it;'s the best one yet.

Had mine since day 2 of deliveries and have had one lock up very early on. Since then I've had no problems of any description.
Very very good box.

Hi all,
I've had mine for over a week now and not a single problem at all, Ive read most of the problems on the forum before i bought it and up to now i have try'd most of the things that some people are having problems doing and they all seem to work we no glitches at all.
No lock-ups, records fine, records out of standbye ok, no sound problems....ect
On the whole i think this is a top piece of kit and well worth the cash

I don't seem to be having any problems, after the first week with one loc-up and two recordings with no sound everything is working as well as I could hope.

Well, from my experience, this box has been a great purchase.

I ordered from Turbosat so brilliant service with free next day delivery. Installation was simple and took no more than 10 minutes. After initial start up it is running almost silently.

I have had no lock ups, the clock runs to time, no missed recordings, no recordings without sound. This in over 10 days of use.

Yes there are a few niggles regarding auto padding, programme names etc etc. However I think this is a top class machine that with some fine tuning by Humax will make it by far the best of the current crop.

Had mine since 21/10 no "problems" at all. No lockups, No missed recordings, no soundless recordings, just a couple of missing minutes on BBC2 which always runs late and I should have padded

My VCR is still hooked up but I haven't used it since buying the 9200.
Searching for the tape, rewinding it to find the start of the programme, then finally watching a poor quality recording, no thanks.

The 9200 is, IMHO the best thing since the iPod
