Having just watched ITT I was stunned to see that Dennis is dancing the Samba on Saturday. That makes 4 latin dances out of 5. I don't think this has ever happened before. There has always been a balance between the latin dances and the ballroom ones, for each celebrity. Before tonight I was pretty certain that Patsy would be doing the samba on Sat (as she has done 3 out of 4 ballroom dances so far) and Dennis would be doing the Viennese Waltz. There is something odd going on here - favouritism, or is he just incapable of doing the V.W.

Can someone please explain to me how the dances are picked? I thought the Vienese Waltz was one that was done by a set of people, not just 2

If last year is to go by they will all do the samba individually and then the Vianesse Waltz together as a whirly twirly circle.

It's like Will and hanna. They did the foxtrot, where all the other male celebs were doing the paso doble. However before that they did
the cha cha,quickstep and jive.
Yeah they will probably do the samba, and then all come together as a group to do the vienniese waltz.

its an uneven split now 8 couples but only two females so cant have males doing latin and females doing ballroom or vice versa. The V Waltz would not look right done on its own you would not get the impact of the fleckle at all

yea I think that makes sense, everyone doing samba and then everyone doing the walz together, it doesnt really work if you do it on your own! The judges dont mark the walz though do they?

Bendymixer - you put it out there so I just gotta ask...what on earth is a fleckle

but surely if they all do the viennese waltz together - and i bow to your superior knowledge that it should be done as a group since i wuldn't know it if it jumped up and bit me on the proverbial - then they are going to be short of dances to fill the programme ie 4 sambas but only 1 ballroom

Thats right dancedreamer. Last year the V Waltz wasn't judged with scores but I can remember comments from the judges about it ...because I remember them mentioning Julian going the wrong way!

There isn't 4 sambas..they all do a samba. All 8. Then they have a break, change their gear, and all do the V Waltz like a set of whirling dervishes. I think last year the V Waltz may have been done in the results show.

no there will be 8 sambas (ie all of them) and one v waltz

the fleckle watch on saturday when a couple breaks from the circle goes in the middle and turns on the spot a fleckle (not sure of spelling)

Thanks bendymixer!
I'm really going to impress mr beesknees-to-be... I'm going to throw 'fleckle' into the conversation next Saturday night when he's least expecting it!

okay get it now...well i did say the viennese doodah meant nothing to me...wouldn't really know a samba from a rumba (or anything else) if i'm honest....love SCD but as a dancer i make Fiona Phillips look great (my parents were gently told that maybe they shouldn't bother bringing their 5yr old daughter back to classes as there was no hope!!)

On Saturday's show Tess definitely said that the eight remaining couples would be dancing the Samba OR the Viennesse Waltz (I remember because I thought it was odd that she said 'or' instead of 'and') - this may have been a mistake on her part but she's usually accurate with the autocue, unlike A. N. Other I could mention but won't

Although it makes more sense for them to dance both and therefore have a group Viennese Waltz (I loved last year's at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom) - the BBC Studio dancefloor is rather small for eight couples, I hope they keep their elbows in...

Thanks hmm@ds, that's what I heard as well (perhaps Tess made a mistake). I wasn't sure who said it and have posted a message about it on another thread.

I know the gender split is uneven, so you get a male celebrity switching to the "female" side, as it were, but this happened in the previous series where the gender split was much more even, and I have no objection to a couple doing two consecutive weeks of ballroom or latin. In any case, as far as I can remember, no one has had more than two weeks in a row doing ballroom or latin, before this week. It would have been logical to switch Bill, Darren or James, not Dennis.

This series lasts 10 weeks and when the numbers get down they do two dances so it is quite possible that the VW is not a "communal" dance this time and you couldn't get 8 couples on that floor together anyway. Last year it was done at Blackpool. Also there are extra dances added this time because the top three will be doing at least 12 dances, perhaps as many as 15.

I remember seeing individual couples doing the Viennese Waltz on Come Dancing all those centuries ago.

It's a dance in its own right with no need to be performed in a group - however it does look fantastic when a group or formation team do it!

yes it can be done on its own but has no impact in competitions there are six in final and on come dancing it was ALWAYS done in two's

I'm all for Dennis doing Latin again - in the library of a remote Catholic seminary, with two Loreto nuns guarding the door.

On ITT tonight they definitely seemed to indicate that the couples were doing either the Samba or the Viennese Waltz. It's tough for the celebrities whichever dance they get. Viennese waltz has less steps but the posture and turn has to be right. It has to flow and that is HARD! But then the Samba has so many possibilities.. all the hip action and bounce. I'm a bit disappointed that Bill has Viennese Waltz as I'd like to have seen him do the Samba. After his Cha Cha I think the Samba would suit him.
