A Chico ballad?

I think we've all got the measure of the direction Chico's taking (or being pushed). It's all songs that require a performance rather than a great voice so far..hence the comments like "you can leave your hat on is inevitable next week" etc etc. I just wondered if people thought that a change in direction such as a soft (not necessarily "big" )ballad would be the kiss of death for him, or a refreshing change that might give him the opportunity to show a more serious side and stop his audience from becoming bored? After all, he needs to "grow" too, doesn't he? Perhaps he could hold a tune better if he wasn't trying to screech his way all the way through. What do you think?

I think so too, he should do a less uptemo song. Then he will surprise people on how good he can be.

Yeah, why not? I don't think he's got anything to lose by trying a ballad now and I'd love to hear him have a go. He has enough of a following to take the risk and I think he could surprise us. Perhaps his voice would suit something by Enrique Inglasias, like "Hero?" maybe?

Please.
I could do with a good laugh.

As another poster put here (I can't remember who..sorry..come on here and identify yourself! )

'This Guy's in Love with you' by Herb Albert would be perfect as it is mainly talking, not so much sing songy, but a beautiful song. I would like to hear him sing that.

I think his voice wasn't too bad on the second half of "Kiss" so maybe he will be able to pull it off. People forget he's dancing around the stage as well as singing. Most artists admit to miming when they are dancing about so maybe he isn't that bad.

Well he's doing a ballad on Saturday so let's hope he pulls it off, I think his voice will actually be better if he keeps still and isn't out of breath from dancing

I'd like to hear him sing "If I Could" (David Essex)

If he had any kind of decent voice we'd have heard it by now.
The man can't sing and hides behind the sleazy dance moves.

Yes, anyone who watches 24/7 on ITV2 on Wednesday night will see who is singing what.

I am pleased that Chico is having the chance to try a change of style. Given the right ballad, which hopefully he will, he has every chance of going through to another week. He certainly seems to be getting a decent following of fans both on here, and with general public at large.

That was me Bohochick, but I have to say that I think that LindyLupin's suggestion (Hero) is.........inspired. Chico - do those 2 songs and you are in the last 6.

While I would love to see Chico (((MEGA-CHICO-TIME))) perform a ballad such as 'Hero', I think he should stay with the big numbers, and oblige the viewers with another spectacular performance.

Unfortunately, I think perhaps if he did a ballad, SC and LW would inevitably compare him with Andy, and I would be quite nervous about the outcome.

Half of me wants him to do the ballad and the other wants to generate the same energy in the studio audience that he inspires every week. As I really do think that this atmosphere he creates on XF transmits itself to the viewer at home. Hence, phone votes.

I think you can rest easy on the comparison issue - Andy can ACTUALLY sing

Now I have got your name again..I won't forget it.

Great choice imo for your song. Not sure he can pull off 'hero'. believe me, I have heard it sung badly so many times...it is a hard song to sing..

So can Chico (((MEGA-CHICO-TIME))) ACTUALLY sing , my observations regard how the script would be written in the event. I suspect SC and LW would compare him to Andy unfavourably, not because it's true, but because that would be what the producers demanded.

In a way I hope he does attempt a ballad, even though my ears will bleed, because it will be the kiss of death for him. The man can't sing and with a ballad he would have nowhere to hide.

He can??? Jesus, there's me thinking all he's good for is a second rate cabaret artist and now you tell me that So, when does he start or is he saving it like Nicholas??

If it was a battle of the ballads between Andy and Chico, then that's pretty much a no brainer and I say that as a fan of neither.

We will never agree on what constitutes a singer, a good singer, a great singer, a great performer etc. , because though you protest impartiality your post reeks of more Chico (((MEGA-CHICO-TIME))) bashing by another name.

But IMO it would depend on what the XF show producers desired at that moment in time. If, as I suspect, Chico (((MEGA-CHICO-TIME))) has a greater fan base and more supporters amongst the viewers than Andy, would the producers risk a fall in the ratings and therefore a possible switch to SCD. It would be very interesting to say the least.

lulu g and Satchmo. I am depressed at the lack of imagination....... Chico has shown a very different side of himself in the last few weeks. A lot calmer, not as smug as earlier weeks. If he picks the right song - Hero this week - sheer personality will carry him through. If the song/performance shows a "vunerable" side to Chico then that will simply add a huge number of votes. Now if you sat Andy down on a stool and gave him the same song to sing - looking right at the camera for 3 minutes - I think it would be a distaster because I don't see a personality behind the blank expression.

A distaster AND a disaster....
