Anyone heard of/like Chantal Kreviazuk? I'm just listening to her album Colour Moving and Still now, and I really like it.

Reminds me of Alanis Morissette - even looks a bit like her!

Hi,

I only know her version of "Leaving On A Jet Plane" from the movie "Armageddon" but if that's anything to go by then she's a fantastic singer.

Steve.

I've now had a few more listens and my favourite songs are Far Away and Eve. There is another one of her albums on Amazon, so I'll order it I think - it'll take weeks to come.

I really like her too, but she's not very well known. She wrote and produced some songs on Kelly Clarkson's latest album.

Does anyone have any recommendations on which album of hers to buy?

She's great. Her earlier stuff is very Alanis Morisette although I think the newer stuff is less so.

I stumbled across her on Music Match a while back and often listen on there, but her stuff is very difficult to get hold of in the UK as far as I can tell.

Have you heard the song: 'Wayne'. I love that one. One of her 'Alanis' soundalikes though. It's on the Album 'Under these rocks and stones', which is really good.

Personally, I'd go for the album 'Under these rocks and stones' though. Some great stuff on there.

Pelicano,

Just realised I typed the same album title twice! Silly me. The one I meant to recommend is actually called: 'What if it all means something?'

The other one's good too though. I personally think they are both better than 'Colour moving and still'.

Thanks for mentioning her, Pelicano. I hadn't heard of her before. I've just listened to clips from her three albums and I agree with Manko - I think I might get the first album, Under These Rocks and Stones.

She's got a great voice and she's obviously very talented BUT she's got a tendency to keep writing the same song, and her second and third albums are poppier than the first. I'll definitely keep an eye on her - I hope she breaks out and does something different next time.

By the way, anyone who likes Chantal Kreviazuk might also like another Canadian singer-songwriter, Jonatha Brooke. She's quite amazing - well, brilliant! - and for some mysterious reason, virtually unknown. I highly recommend her albums Plumb, 10 Cent Wings and Steady Pull.

Thanks for the recomendation, Ruby. I'm just giving her a listen now - first a song called 'Annie', now another called 'Ten Cent Wings'.

A bit more sparse than Chantal, but very nice.

Love her version of "Feels Like Home". Bonnie Raitt's version of this song is one of my favourites of all time but Chantal's version is even better.

Let me know whereabouts you get Under These Rocks and Stones from if you get it - thanks.

She is a Canadian Singer/Songwriter. The reason I have heard of her is she used to sing in my cousins church in Winnipeg when she was younger and they know her quite well. She did have the same management team as Sarah McLachlan and I do believe she is married/dating a Canadian Rock star.

I think she's married to the lead singer of Our Lady Peace, but not sure.

Colour Moving and Still is my favourite of her albums, but I'm not sure if it's just because it was the first one I bought, and therefore I have a soft spot for it. What If It All Means Something was a little too poppy for me compared to her earlier style, although Under Rocks and Stones was good as well.

I read she's recently had a second child, so I don't know how long it'll be before she's recording again, but hopefully sooner rather than later!

I got Under Rocks and Stones from play.com, if that helps?

Am just resurrecting this old thread as I've just bought 'What if it all means something' at last. I've only listened to it once so far (so can't pick out any favourites yet), but I love it. 'Colour moving and still' has become my favourite CD of the moment - it's never off my iPod.
