Ok, so I originally bought one of these pieces of junk because of this thread.

Does anyone know how to get the camera to work? As far as I can see this function can be accessed 2 ways.

1. By left clicking the navigation dial (This may be an O2 unique menu)

2. From the main menu>multimedia>camera

The problem is that on my phone, although the screen goes to the camera, it only has 'Back' and the centre sub-menu icon available - there is no 'Capture' icon on the RHS (and of course pressing the RH button does not work). Pressing the sub-menu icon also does nothing. After about 3-5 seconds the phone returns to the previous screen.

I've tried a master reset and a master clear - no luck.

Oh, and I can't return it to O2. The problem being after O2 initially failed to supply a charger and manual, gave me a lot of grief, I finally looked like this when I discovered the 'king thing didn't work. I told O2 of the apparent fault 3 weeks, and they told me to return it. Well I've now had a full refund, but I can't (or maybe won't ) return it. First O2 emailed me saying use the freepost returns label - I told them I didn't get one of them either so could they kindly confirm the returns address. Then they emailed saying call 0870 blah blah blah
Well they've now had their 14 days notice to either collect the unwanted goods or supply the returns address (why can't they call 0870 number for the address?) - but no response!
So unless they blacklist the phone, I thought I might try and get it working.

If I reflash the software, will that help?
Or does anyone have any alternative solutions?

Well it's supposed to be the right softkey.

the memory isn't full is it, you can tell by pressing the menu key then view free space...

reflash is the fella.

get shot of the O2 branding too.

I have the V620 and on the left side of the phone I have the button to activate camera so try there if not then look on the right side of the phone.

Cheers flagpole

Phone is currently set up as

Top Nav key = Java games
Left Nav key = Camera
Right Nav Key = O2 (launches browser)
Bottom Nav key = Message Centre

As you say, the RH soft button should activate the camera, once in camera mode, but the 'capture' is missing from the screen and hence the soft key does nothing

I don't think the memory is full - the phone has not been used and I've also done master reset & clear

How do I check the free space? Can't see it from the menu nor within settings

pressing the funny middle key should give you a menu with memory info on it.

Though i agree that probably isn't it.

Yep...the V220 has Volume + & Volume - buttons on the LHS. It also has a Smart Key button which does take me to the camera mode, but again no chance to make it work

The RHS has a Voice Key (No Voice Names are stored in Phonebook)

The one at the top with horizontal lines - the 'menu key' , it gives me the various menu options (including settings as the last option). Can't see how to get memory info though

The centre button within the Nav dial also gives the same.

Problem solved.

Phone reflashed, de-branded and unlocked.
(Well whilst I was reflashing it, I thought it may as well be unlocked )
Camera now works.

I'm just left wondering whether it was worth it - the camera is not exactly brilliant is it?

Are any of the mobile phone camera's?
Even the most recent ones are only a couple of megapixels.

Glad to see you got it fixed. I got mine off the Orange site for £49.99 in June, and this function was not there! Instead when you go into Menu, there was the camera opition!

Theres hardly any Orange branding apart from the startup and closing screens
