I have an old Decca 14'' tv it would work ok for 10 min's and then the screen just goes grey like you had turned it to AV and some channels disappear before others .

hi, sorry to hijack your thread but i have a problem similar but with my VCR.

Basicly i can watch channels through the VCR as well as record and play etc, but after about five minutes all the channels untune themselves This also happens when i record.

They gradually get worse over a period of about 10 - 15 seconds and then the video goes to blue mute, sometimes its just BBC1 and 2, and others its ITV1, CH4 or five in various orders.
Then, usually after i have flicked through the channels for a while they come back but it keeps doing it.

It's a Daewoo V60, got it for free but its such a great little VCR with video plus, PDC etc.

Regarding your tv, could be any number of things, possibly a tuner fault but it might also be a component or just a dry joint, others who are experts in this field will be able to help more

I have a similar fault in a Ferguson TX portable (from about 1981 when Ferguson made quality stuff) which I use in the kitchen. The screen goes black every so often, but the sound stays on.
It doesn't do it often enough to be worth replacing at the moment, but I'm not thinking of repairing it.

Your tv is very unlikely to be worth repairing. Having a new tuner fitted, assuming they are available, will (with labour costs) be more than the cost of a new model.

Have you tried tapping the set on the back and sides? This can reveal a dry solder joint which might be fixable cheaply.
