Yes, Richard Davidson was the name I was searching for. I know he got one of the France episodes to write recently, but in that one (if I recall correctly) Jim Carver could actually act again.

Rob Gittins needs to be sacked a.s.a.p.

Andyscouser - I'm flattered. I have a diamond ring and am willing to go down on one knee.

Completely agree, I was laughing at that! In fact, I thought that the police were amazingly casual throughout the entire episode. They seemed to have no urgency, and they relied on the locals to do their investigative work for them while they just sat in the pub!

Still, as you say, it was good to watch.

Yes, fantastic climax to the Den storyline, its been gripping viewing on and off for 9 months now, my only concern is where EastEnders will go from here. i know its not all wrapped up yet, but i doubt the storyline can offer a climax like tomights epi again. It's like corrie and the tricky dicky episode, fantastic viewing, but corrie hasn't been able to produce a storyline like that since, and that was 2 years ago!

As much as I am enjoying the conclusion of this storyline, it is also tinged with Sadness.

What a fantastic Character Chrissie has been, she was one of a few who was an instant hit for me.

The other thing is I finally have to say goodbye to the Legend that is Den Watts.

i agree that chrissie seemed to be popular from her first scenes!

its been a fantastic storyline for eastenders and really has won them back a lot of viewers that had turned off.

I've got two points to make:

ONE
Last nights episode was great, Rob Gittens did a superb job having to cram an awful lot into 28 minutes, he's obviously a credible writer or they wouldn't have asked him to write for the programme. Some of the comments on here made about him are quite childish. There were loads of great moments; the end of the course and the SLAP, Chrissie in the taxi being stopped by Kat, Ian telling Jane his reasons for buying the Vic. Although personally for me, my favourite had to be Chrssie walking through Albert Sq with Jake so she could get to the cafe without anyone suspecting anything. Nothing was said but sometimes silence says more then dialogue in drama, Chrissies acting skills shone. Did you see her face at the end? Someone give that woman an award.

TWO
These forums. Is it me or are they slowly turning into the way that the Eastenders forums were a couple of years ago? I've never seen so many pointless threads and postings.

KO by Sharon! I loved it! Chrissie's expression at the end looked more like she was playing a game. The lack of remorse is quite disturbing. The episode was so good that I this is all I can write. Perfection. A+

RG is probably the most experienced and 'senior' regular writer on Easties at present and I believe he used to be good (so someone who is watching past eps on UK Gold tells me). But he now comes across as jaded and mundane IMO. He wrote one of the most woeful scripts in recent history - the Ferreira exit.

He was okay last night, but in an episode of that magnitude I was expecting more than 'okay', I was expecting terrific.

I thought Richard Davidson's dialogue was far more impressive in Monday's episode. I hope they continue to use him more regularly.

I thought it was a great episode - but wished at was longer - say 45 mins. I can remember looking at my watch with 5 minutes to go and thinking 'how come they're all still in the Square?'

Fab ending - it was great to see Sharon finally getting something to get her teeth into away from Shannis.

One thing that bothered me was the Ruby/Johnny situation. How has she all of a sudden forgiven him? He was about to commit murder, drove Tina away and hasn't changed one bit.

generally a good episode, which had me hooked. I was going to watch Spin City, then EE at 10pm (but couldn't bare to miss Chrissy's downfall)

my only quibbles were Jake & Chrissie just hanging around the house, surely that was a bit risky. It wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that the Mitchells would come back (Nana Moon's a good liar though, despite being loopy)

the double false trails thing was a bit contrived (and Ian's reasons for wanting the Vic). Also I can't believe the police would just let Sharon speak to/slap Chrissie while they just stood there in the background

agree with those that suggested Chrissie would have been better off getting out of London first, before trying to flee the country (but then again this is a soap)

I still wanted her to get away with it, but it's seems only Mitchells get away with killing people

I know Chrissie is "gonna do the right thing" and keep Zoe out of it, but I can't see how Zoe can get away with borderline attempted murder (self defense argument is bit flimsy - imo)

You're right he seems to have no feel for pacing an episode, and a lot of the dialogue felt extremely mundane and not worthy of such a potentially epic episode.

However to be kind to RG - maybe they had already shot their bolt plotwise. I felt we had 'done' all the tension in previous episodes.

But to be less kind, I think if they had given this episode to Richard Davidson, it would have been twice as good. Yet poor RD gets mainly really run of the mill episodes to write - why do the producers have a fixation with Rob Gittins? (I am beginning to suspect that Sarah Phelps has left, I can't actually remember the last episode she wrote and she would normally be wheeled out for an ep like this.)

(Like the idea of Lucy Beale taking out Billy )
The last epsiodes Sarah Phelps wrote were Sharon and Dennis wedding day back in early September.

I was sure that she will get Grant's return episode but instead TJ got it and did a fantastic.

I was also sure she would get this episode but instead she wrote this Friday episode. This means Sarah Phelps has not done any work for Grant yet.

I did read somewhere here that someone said Sarah Phelps is writing the Xmas Day and New Year Day episodes in which two couple will leave

The reason why Mr Gittins got last nights episode is simple under JY first era at EE, RG was one of the key writers. And if you had watched EE on UKGold in the last few year you would have see that a many of the key episodes were by RG.

He is also been writing for EE longer than any other writer, SP has only been there for 3 years whereas RG it nearly 16 years!!

Here is more info about RG:

You make it hard for me Sarah Phelps has writen Friday's episode. and she has done the Christmas ones along side Tony Jordan which is the first time he has writen an episode with someone else.

Thanks for all that - I hadn't looked at the credits for the rest of the week yet so I didn't realise SP was reappearing. Good news if she has written the xmas & NY eps. (I agree TJ wrote a great ep for the bruvs.)

I realise RG is very 'senior' and has a long history with EE (as I said in my most recent post) and that he used to have a good reputation, but as I also said I don't think he is that great nowadays, he seems rather jaded.

I completely see your reasoning re JY and RG, and I suppose I shouldn't be surprised (this is the bbc) - but being there longest shouldn't mean you get the best gigs unless you are best at them, and IMO the results onscreen say he isn't.

Very well put!

Yes, I have defended Rob Gittins in the past and pointed to his earlier work as being good (the 2002 episodes are currently airing on UKGold and I have referred to them before in his defence.) BUT...He almost seems like a different writer these days. Jaded is an excellent way of describing his recent work, imo.

To anyone who thinks my comment was harsh, well I'm quite happy to praise EE when they do something right, but I refuse to praise something which I think is below par just to 'tow the party line.'
