These types of tariffs are big in Europe aren't there so why is it that only T-Mobile do it here? I would have thought there would be a lot of money to be made if it was run properly as it's exactly the type of thing youths would go for and gives parents a little more peace of mind. I just think that T-Mobile don't do it very well and if someone like Orange or Vodafone did it, it could really take off.

It doesnt make sense for mobile operators to cap usuage in this way (in a financial way that is). Companies would prefer you to run up bills rather than stopping the phone working at a certain level. Its all about maximising profit.

yes but the young people running up the bills are not being able to pay them unless they have a rich mummy and daddy so the companies aren't getting there money anyway!

I think this is a great idea personally and I would have loved for something like this to be avaliable when I was younger!

I'm not vertain that it's a great idea for the companies.

But it would help with people with bad credit.

I've never understood why there would be a market for capped contract deals

The major advantage of contract (as I see it) is that you never run out of credit

For those who cannot obtain a contract deal, or who do not trust themselves with a contract deal, there is pre-pay (PAYG)

But it's not quite capped because when you've spent your billed amount you just top-up like a PAYG user would.

Well you get the better rates of contracts, but don't risk, say, having your phone nicked and running up a huge bill.

Most people never go over their contract anyway, so you just stick £10 on and leave it. i can see the appeal.

I'd say just about everyone goes over their free allocation. The only time I see accounts that haven't is usually when people have line advances and their monthly bills are 2p or something like that

In the days when pay as you go was epensive I can see the benefits of such a service. However now pay as you go is so cheap it seems pointless going through all the extra hastle of setting this method up. Not to mention it costs the networks quite a bit more to run a pay monthly account than it does a pay as you go one.
