I agree with most points above.
The task was a disgrace; a fiasco. There was no task element in it whatsoever, it was anticlimatic, a ploy at trying to keep Jade in, and, of course a money grabber.
Big Brother 1 was a novelty show. There was a splendid sense of ignorance and no self-cosciousness in the house. Big Brother 2 carried over most of this sense, though idiots such as Stuart, Narinder et al went in to be famous. Sadly, events such as the following have, for me, spoilt the entire series:
1) Jade signing the BB theme in her sleep
2) Jonny talking about Dermot's show
3) Impersonating the BB narrator
In it's vulnerability and ignorance, BB1 (and, though to a lesser extent BB2) was magical. Big Brother inevitably has lost this sense and has to inject new "novelties"....
in BB2: the "new housemate", a "mid week eviction", a "live nomination in the second week"
however in BB3 we have "live show" "two new housemates" "snap eviction in first week" "heaven and hell" "secret room (unconfirmed" "a 'task' deciding on nominations"........ the list is endless. We have to understand that BB has to do this to evolve and to remain popular. We can expect much much more next year, Saturday prime time evictions, which was a mooted idea this year, probably a live nomination programme, maybe even a BB for couples or something like that........ the same happened with WWTBAM and TWL. The ratings for these two programmes peaked, then with the introduction for celebrity, couples, comedians, actors etc etc the public went off these programmes, leading to the axe (in US now, us soon I would guess)
The ratings have peaked; a sure sign of profit and success for C4. All bubbles do burst, a shelf life is only as long as people are bothered to read, and probably BB4 or BB5 will be the last
I'll leave you with an old saying: familiarity breeds contempt.
