why has the street turned into a comedy?

over the last few months maybe years, corrie has totaly lost the plot. Its no longer a soap about the daily going ons of the local people in weathersfield. Its turned into a sit com.
Where in real life ( and this is what its meant to be ) would you find such over the top characters such as Fred, Cilla and her mate, Digory, Norris, etc.
Even the storylines are right out of a comedy show. The pigs, Les and The Quo, Les and Cilla's wedding, Ashley boxing, to name just a few.
Now we are soon to have Jack modeling nude.

I cant recall who's in charge of corrie now but whoever it is he should be axed and someone else come in who knows what the street is really about.

It is not a comedy!

How can you say that? There are too many characters that wouldn't be out of place in a half hour sit com. Don't get me wrong, I still watch corrie and have done for 30+ years but it is so ' unreal' now.

i agree the street is a joke. so much so that everyone i know calls it Pantostreet. about the producer, tony wood(name says it all) is going(probably pushed but ITV wouldn't say because the papers would start "corrie in crisis" or something) and is being replaced by steve frost (ex emmerdale) in the new year

it has totally turned into a comedy, that's all they do now, you would never find people like that in real life, it was never famouse for being like that, it became famouse because it was so down to earth

i agree with harvs. corrie has turned into a comedy, they should put corrie on in the affternoon, after the mad maya, karl and todd, killer katy, the storylines have gone boring  i wish they was some great storyline coming up. i still watch corrie but it needs to get out of comedy very soon. i am glad tony wood is leaving corrie and bring in steve frost who wrote emmerdale.

When my mate talks about her friends and family from back home, I'm not kidding they sound just as over the top as people on Corrie.

She's from. . . Manchester.

Maybe it's something in the water?

I am from Manchester ( near enough) and nothing funny happens in my street.
