In what way is Tim's joke funny? And I use the term joke loosely.
”

Because with that one sentence he a) cost him self any chance of surviving his first vote b) cost C4 another rebuke from the ITC. Given that the ITC did not accept the excuses against the complaint of foul language on E4 during the daytime last year, I imagine they will go to town this year

The ITC noted all the effort put into ensuring compliance of the E4 ‘live’ feed but, nevertheless, felt that, given the ten-minute delay, it should have been possible to edit both instances of the use of this word, which is considered by the ITC to be unsuitable for broadcast before 9pm.

Conclusion :E4 were in breach of Section 1.5 of the Programme Code

I'd love to see the silly toff tell his "joke" with Lee, Adele, Alison and Sunita in the room. Hmmm, why do I get the feeling that that would never happen...

racism or homophobia should not be tolerated on BB3, Tim according to this thread crossed the thresh hold of what is accpeted, and should face the whole wrath of the BB3 household.

So should the sniggering prats making the homophobic inuendos....and we know who they are in the BB3 household and on the forum, the same people who think racist jokes are acceptable.

Ditch bigotry and intolerance now....

Question number two... read the "joke" in question and it seems to refer to a nationality, not a race. Not sure how this constitutes "racism" then. ”

It's obvious you are not aware the term Tim used is a racial slur against not only nationals of Pakistan but also as a derogatory slur for people of Asian ethnicity.

Racism and other "-isms" go beyond the literal meaning, in case you didn't know. PC or no PC, racist jokes are offensive and are only "funny" to those who aren't the target of such jokes. I rest my case your Honour.

Lighten up people.
Ever heard of the first amendment ? Okay, we're not in america, and i realise living in this Police state of the UK, but still - dont you go telling people what they can and cant say in their life.

What did tim do wrong huh ? He said something which he thought would be funny to the other housemates.
You people 'offended' by such things, you want to now 'hurt' tim don'nt you. Shame on any of you for wanting to hurt tim, for saying things.

For the record, i've friends from all sorts of various 'genetic' origins, i couldnt give a damn where people come from. All that matters is that people are 'nice'.

Any members of the thought police, come and get me.

Life is short, quit spending all your time trying to censor people.

???

"paki" is a derogatory term for a "pakistani".

people from india, sri lanka, and other neighbouring countries have simliar racial background, but are not encompassed by the term.

the usage is thus seemingly based on political borders rather than ethnicity. To be racist it has to be referring to race.

Why does this only make sense to me?

When you have actually experenced day to day hate, you wll find racist or homophobic "jokes" and slurs are not as innocent and worthy as protection as they seem...

As a gay guy, who has been heckled at work, and called across the work car park .... a ****ing gay bastard, had people mimicing me carrying a hand bag in the work campaign....I realise how hurtful bigotry is and can be.

Racist jokes belong in the gutter, we are all human beings regardless of our skin color sexuality sex or age, and lots of other things too...

Sorry Im not a member of the thought police, but a human being with feelings and they can get hurt

Have you ever been called a "paki"? Is your skin brown, white or some other tone? I have been called "paki" too many times to recount. Because my skin is brown, not because I hail from Pakistan. Do you really think racists who use offensive terms of abuse like "paki" either know or care what nationality or heritage the butt of their abusive language really has? Do you think they stop to ask, "excuse me, are you of Pakistani origin or some other Asian country? Only I'd like to know so that I can use the appropriate derogatory term to insult you with". Get real. Perhaps best not to talk about what you very clearly do not know anything about.

As long as you're getting pedantic, race refers to people of common ancestry, not just skin colour or ethnicity. For example, Africans (political term) share common ancestry, Asians (again political) share common ancestry, etc. And this explains why it is common practice for racist people to group them all together when making racist comments and slurs. Ahh, ignorance is bliss.

Sorry for the history lesson.

Colinsky, it's an abusive term, ok? Geographical/political matters don't enter into it when someone spews it out.

By your definition anyone using that term would be thinking things through, contemplating when and where it is most applicable! The people using it haven't got a precise idea of where someone is from, from the examples I have witnessed.

And Tim thinks Oslo is in Switzerland, remember?

Given the sensitivity of the subject in question, I think it would be best to close this thread before it degenerates into a flame war which may cause offence.

Thread closed.
