After much shopping around I bought one from comet.co.uk last week for £165. Have a look on www.pricerunner.co.uk. I've seen them as low as £150 but I went with comet because of some of the poor customer reviews from the lesser known retailers.

Anyway I'm absolutely delighted with it. I suppose it could be a bit more aesthetically pleasing but I don't think you'll find a DVD recorder as good as this for less money.

Having recorded from sky+ the picture quality is superb. Maximum recording time is 6 hours and not 8 as it does not have SEP but I don't think I would ever feel the need to use SEP anyway so it's hardly a major drawback.

I had one and swapped it with another one because the picture through the scart lead had smearing on high contrast pictures. The second one did the same so I returned it and got my money back (from Comet). Apparently it's a re-badged LG or something.

I'm now waiting for views about the RDR-GX310, I don't need the Freeview but it might be a quality Sony product rather then the re-badged cheapo GX210.

I'm on my second one in 6 months. The first was a replacement (insurance claim), it lasted a couple of months before refusing to play any sort of DVD's even those that had been taped on the machine, CD's were no problem, played ok, it was sent back and replaced with a new machine, everything has been ok until this weekend, the machine is refusing DVD's again, getting the message "this disc cannot be played".
Another annoying thing about the machine, when it works, is the length of time to load up to be ready for recording, it takes an age.

I finally got mine. It's a free gift, so I was prepared to wait. I like it. I have been copying old home videos to DVD and it does this well. I am using the + format of R & RW and the DVDs play on all my DVD players in the house also on the computers. A Freeview tuner would have been good, but to be fair this is a replacement for a VHS recorder and as such it is much better than the unit it is replacing.
