Chaseplay - could it ever be made possible?

Are there are people out there who have worked on devices such as the Humax and who could tell me if they think it would be possible to provide chase play as a firmware update?

I'd have thought is possible - it's not like the Panasonic for example which requires a special read/write head after all, but I'd like to know someone who *knows* about these things

thanks

Off the top of my head - given the other parallel functions that the silicon seems capable of, I can't really see a reason why this wouldn't be possible to implement.

As we know, you can chase the "rewind buffer" on the same channel that's been recorded (as long as it's been buffering the same thing) so technically I don't see a reason why not. In both cases you are reading/demuxing/decoding/displaying a stream from the HDD at the same time that another stream is being demuxed and recorded to the HDD.

Thanks for your input Cliff
I think that means I'm going to have to buy one now. The current Mrs Woodman won't be happy with you

Be aware though - just because they can does not mean they will.

I am sure the priority will be on fixing actual bugs (such as loss of epg) than adding new features.

What is Humax's track record like on that sort of thing?
