I have read the instructions and enabled time shifting, but I still can't watch a program from the beginning having switched on half way thro'. Where am I going wrong?
Any suggestions please............

It depends what you mean by "switched on half way through".

If you mean you've just switched over to a channel that the Toppy is already recording, and has recorded half of, then you can either press the Play button to bring up the progress bar, and then use << to take yourself back to the beginning, or (if you're using the latest firmware) you can select the still-recording programme from the archive and play will start at the beginning.

If you mean that your Toppy's been on the channel of a programme that you haven't been watching, then you can use the first method above.

If you mean you've just switched to a fresh channel on the Toppy that you haven't been recording and you want to rewind to the beginning of the current programme then you're out of luck - it doesn't speculatively cache every channel on the off chance you might want to rewind live TV.

If the box isn't switched on, it won't be doing anything, so of course you can't start watching anything from the beginning - it wouldn't have a clue what you were watching.

But.... if the box is switched on and time shift is enabled, then as soon as it is tuned to a channel, it is automatically saving the program, so you can hit pause or rewind and skip back up to an hour - up to the point at which you switched to that channel. If you switch to another channel, you lose what's been saved, and it starts saving that channel, from the point at which you switched to it.

So, if you leave the box on, pop into the garden, and remember 20 minutes late that Dr Who is on, as long as you left it on the right channel, just press rewind.

Or, as I often do, press Pause when a programme on a commercial channel starts, and go fetch a beer or make coffee. Come back in a bit, press pause again to start watching, and fast forward through the ads to catch up.

If you're not sure if you're going to be home at all, or if you don't know when you might get to watch, set a recording for the programme, using the EPG in the usual way, or by pressing Record twice while you watch, and choosing when you want the recording to end.

If a proper recording is happening, you can switch to another channel, or come home whenever you want, and then call up the list of recordings via the Archive button. Select the recording while it's still happening, and press OK. You'll start watching it from the beginning while it carries on recording the end. You can fast forward through the adverts and catch up that way.

Nigel.
