He sounded fantastic and I much prefer him with his hair shaved, he looked great!

You can't say he looked like JT just cause he had his hair shaved...When we first saw him, he had the same style and no one said anything.

The problem is though, he has no character of his own.
We either get dull ballad Shayne or Justin Timberlake Shayne....
What is HIS style?

What's with the dancing though?

He doesn't need to do that. Far too much like JT for my liking.

As Simon Cowell said, having the X Factor is about being different. Is Shayne different? I don't think he is.

I think it will backfire-it looks really desperate. It's so much like Justin it makes me cringe.....

I heard Shayne sing this for the first time tonight and although i thought it sounded ok, i also though he looked and sounded like he was just Impersonating JT.I didn't see any of his own stamp on it and i think that's where he's lacking, he needs more originality. Maybe it's just me but i too like artists who write there own material because i think that gives them the edge when it comes to putting their stamp on a cover song. As someone said earlier in this thread it also makes you more interested in hearing their original work, hence more chance of people buying an album by them rather than an album full of covers.

The one he walked into the audition in - which is the one he still has now. He had his hair short at the auditions and wore baggy jeans and loose fitting top - much the same as he is wearing at the moment.

I thought he sounded and looked pretty good tonight.

There is of course the middle ground - an album of original material written by someone else - which the majority of artists (both current and historically) do.

Personally I have no problem with people singing other people's songs - as long as they do it well. Better that than sing your own original stuff that is quite frankly very poor.

I like Shayne and I think he has a great voice. However, he cannot sing high notes and I really can't bear it when he does because it hurts my ears.

i thot i was the only person who noticed this, everyone else seems to think he's a great singer...i think the high notes are pretty awful and im wondering why these vocal coaches and mentors have allowed him to sing songs that continually stretch his voice to places it cant reach

i thought he sounded good as well

i must say all these comments of a justin clone and impersonation are wearing thin

it was only a couple of weeks ago some of the same people were suggesting he sang a justin or robbie song

i suppose you can only please people a few at a time

last week i said JS sounded brilliant, this week i have said shayne did and got the same reaction

yeah, but you have to expect those comments this week because his song/dance routine IS just a Justin rip off....

plenty of people asked for him to do it

are people saying brenda is a dione warwick rip off or JS a Bon Jovi rip off or the Conway sisters a rip off

they all rip someone off at one time or another

the only one i dont see doing it is maria with brown sugar and JS last week

but shayne does a timberlake song and everyone shouts CLONE, RIP OFF why didnt they shout that when he sang D Bennigfeild

I think Shayne is getting particularly targeted for being a JT rip off because he is singing the song in exactly the same way JT sang it, is using similar dance moves and has a similiar look - because of the nature of the show everyone has to cover other artists material, the key I think is trying to make the song your own not just doing a good imitation of the original

thats why i think the only ones who have done anything different are JS and Maria

thats why i dont think the clone comments are that fair

Because to be a clone of Bedingfield he'd have to be a fat-headed sleaze.

Because he just sood still and sang the song!
You can't totally copy someone elses vocal style AND dance routine without running the risk of being called a clone! It's a total copy!

Exactly, after all this is 'X Factor' not 'Stars in Their Eyes'!

Besides which; Shayne has already demonstrated he can't hit the high notes required for that song, so I think he's setting himself up to come over like a poor imitation of Justin Timberlake. Sharon will love it, regaurdless, but Simon may well get out his claws tonight, IMO....

I dont see the problem with his choice of song if thats what he wants to do, and i dont expect he will be leaving tonight either.

No, neither do I, but if it goes pear-shaped again tonight, that will mean Shayne has only put in one really good performance in the live stages of the show (when he did the Daniel Beddingfield number). That has got to influence the judges overall view of him (well, Simon actually, given Sharon is smitten) which may be a problem for him later if/when Simon is trying to chose between, for example, Maria and Shayne.

He gave a good performance the first week as well.
