When will Vodafone start to compete?

I've been with Vodafone for a few years now and was wondering when they would start to compete with the offfers from other networks, Orange has just launched new offers and O2 has had the Genie sims for a while now...I think it would be vital to them to start doing something in the way of this, to keep customers or grab more.

Stop the Clock is unique to Vodafone? No other network really has this as yet?

To be honest I am glad that they have not through of anything else - just the packs you can buy. I can see Orange now getting clogged just like O2 due to overusage and its offers to get customers.

Orange could have done those offers ages ago if they had wanted. Maybe they have been smart and increased there network capacity before making such offers available.

I've not noticed any difference in my Orange service yet, but we shall see.

Yeah, could have. Don't want to see Orange like O2 though its a good network in the palces you get coverage.

Probably if and when they lose there huge customer base. As soon as new subscribers slow up or they lose PAYG customers I am sure they will review the situation. They would be silly not too.

pay vod £10pm for 200 Xnet minutes and 500 txts, seems pretty competative to me.

Pardon? Are you saying you can get 200 xnetwork minutes and 500 texts a month on vodafone for £10 a month?? I cant see this anywhere. Sounds a bit too good to be true if you ask me.

Also, the "Passport" service. Where you can use your existing tariff whilst roaming abroad. Most european countries support this and also NZ, Aus and China, with US to follow next year. Therefore saving you a fortune if you regularly go abroad.

Also launching "Super 3G" early next year. Basically faster 3G service. Currently trialling in London to be rolled out to rest of UK later in 2006. O2 will be trialling their service early next year in the Isle Of Man.

Finally, like Orange, Vodafone will have a Line 2 service where you can have a second number on one sim card - idel for business customers who want their private number linked to the same phone.

Plus a review of their tariffs in the Spring, but I've said too much.

Do you mean HSDPA? If so this is already been trialed on Manx Telecom by o2. I have not been made aware of any offcial trials in London. Oxford however are trialing out Mobile TV. It certainly makes the future look good for mobile data users

HSDPA is currently running at 1.4mbps on Manx 3G network.

When it is launced on in 2006 (Q3) it should be around the 3.6mbps hopefully on the UK network. Technology could offer just a little over 10mbps which isnt at all bad, however will take to around 2009.

The thing that I think makes Voda PAYG expensive are the 12p text messages & 10p minimum call. May not sound much but if you're only on a call for a few seconds you pay twice as much as other networks & with other networks you can send 6 text messages for the same price as 5 messages with Vodafone.

Stop the clock isn't bad though if most of your calls last for over 3 minutes.

Vodafone have always been good for offpeak calls on their PAYG services....... But what if i want to call people during the day?! Only 100% more than i am willing to pay

Orange charge 12p for text messages? A lot of people were unhappy when orange all of a sudden made that change. Least vodafone have kept it from the start on PAYG at 12p a text.

I dont think 10p min. call charge is that bad at all, Guess it stops teens doing quick prank calls!

As do T-Mobile, Virgin, O2 and 3. Then there are people like fresh who are even cheaper.

I think 10p as a minimum call charge is well over the top, especially as about 50% of my calls are only a few seconds long to arange to meet people, arange lifts etc. means I'm paying twice as much as I would with another provider. It certainly isn't very competative.

Forget Vodaphone, I'm not sure Orange are very competitive. Ive been on their PAYG for 5 years and they just get worse.

They abolished the peak/off peak and replaced it with 15/min at all times. Now I've just checked and they've upped their standard tariff to 20p/min at all times. This now equals their worst value option when they had 3 tariff choices.

They're starting to remind me of BT - incapable of offering decent prices.

All the free texts and evening calls as long as you top up/do this that and the other doesn't appeal to me simply because ALL offers have terms which are designed to catch you out (see BT's offers, they are the worlds worst)...and I can't remember all the little catches.

Tesco are miles better value than Orange, so I have one of their SIMS as well but sadly all my family and friends are on Orange so they get stung when they phone me.

I do. the phoned me up and offered it me to move from PAYG. they gave me a nasty handset, a nokia 1100. i sold it on ebay for £30, or 3 months line rental as i like to call it.

Why not stay on Orange pay as you go, you get free evening calls to Orange customers. Plus 300 free texts when you top up with £10 (600 on £20, 1000 on £30)

I'd rather they just follow Tescos tariffs. All these freebies which have conditions attached do my head in, for instance the free texts and calls (only orange to orange, subject to fair usage etc etc) is an attempt to get you to spend £10+ EVERY month, so effectively a contract. It's also a smart rouse to try and prise people off the old tariffs.

You notice that once you switch from your old tariff to the new ones, there's no going back.

They're not stupid.

T-mobile take the biscuit. They charge me 30p per min regardless of time of day. Whenever i use the wap they must be charging about 2per kb or something equally extortiate.

ITs only lazyiness and the fact that i have £9 credit left on the sim that prevents me from changing.

You mean O2 don't give you a free phone with all the positive exposure you've been giving them on here

I don't mind the look of T-mobile's relax tariff, most of my calls are cross network and without bundles it actually would work out cheaper than Voda and Orange would, especially with the 'up to£100 free credit promo' they've got at the moment. It's just that the signal is rubbish round these parts, they don't do voice bundles and the extortionate amount they charge for GPRS that puts me off.
