9200T Chase Play?
timsfcuk

Hi,

apologies if this question has been asked elsewhere but after reading through vast amounts of posts I haven't really been able to find an answer.

Does anyone know if you can fast forward a "live " program to skip the ads.

For example of I wanted to watch Lost at 10pm could I set the 9200 to record it then start watching from the beginning at say 10.05 and when the numerous ad breaks kick in I could then Fast forwards thru them??

Is this what chase play is. If not what is it.

Basically i wanna watch a "live" or near as damn it program but skip thru the ads

Also did I read in another post somewhere that the 9200T doesn't let you watch a program that is currently recording which if tru would probably scupper this idea..

Youcan do this, but not by watching the recording program (currently not possible)

However if you tune to the channel you wish to watch AND DONT CHANGE CHANNEL you can pause it at the start of the programme (or alternatively rewind to thispoint later) You can then skip through adverts using FF or the commercial skip button

so if don't record it you can pause the live tv and then watch it 5 10 mins later.

Sounds ideal. Cheers for that.

You can record it AND pause the live channel!!

"You can record it AND pause the live channel!!"

Sounds like that uses both the two tuners, is that right? One to handle the scheduled recording, and one for the "live/pause/chase" viewing.

Yes, it does use both tuners
(so can't do this if making recordings on 2 channels at the same time)

That explains why the other night pauseing a live program then unpausing it took me to the current time of the broadcast and not the timeslipped version. Must have been recording anotehr 2 channels!

Cheers

I think there's a bit of confusion here!

As has been posted by jpbates, you can tune to the prog you want to watch when it starts, then immediately pause it for as long as you think the ads will last - say five mins for a 30min prog. Then hit the play button after 5mins and you can FF thro' the ads so long as you haven't caught up with real time.

Alternatively you can tune to the prog you want to watch, leave it playing, go off and do whatever you want to do, then rewind into the buffer and watch as in previous para, FFing thro the ads until you catch up.

You can also hit instant record at the start of the prog and do all the pauses and rewinds that you fancy, as skips etc. This does not use the second tuner, so you are still able successfully to record a simultaneous scheduled recording. Or you can switch channels from your instant recording and return later, but in this scenario I believe you will have to wait until the instant recording is finished before you can do this because the buffer will now be the channel you switched to.

It's only scheduled recordings that the 9200 won't do chase play in the way that most people in this forum seem to regard it. With instant recordings it's far more flexible.

Hope this helps?

Yes it does. Of course, we want everything. Ideally I'd be able to schedule a recording, get home after the start and before the finish, and start watching it even while the recording completes.

Sounds like I can't do that ... actually I definitely can't since I don't even have a machine yet.

Hang on, though. Doesn't the Humax let you watch a third program, as long as it's on the same mux as one of the two recordings? Does that mean you _can_ chase play? Getting hopelessly confused.

There are some machines - for example the Topfield - that do let you do exactly this. It's one of the main reasons why I am torn between the Humax and the Toppy...

A work round for those complaining about lack of Chase play - simply stop the recording you want to watch and instantly start a new recording of same channel ( at advert time if possible) . you can then watch the first half with all the normal rewind/pause features and switch to the second half of the recording when the first has finished. OK you end up with a recording that is split into two but it does do what you want.
