Come on ppl is it just me that thinks Brenda doesn't get the credit she deserves??? I mean she has stronger vocals and better personality AND a better likability factor then Maria yet the judges and public seem to give off a vibe of preferring Maria over Brenda??? I can't decide if more people like Brenda or Maria

All i can say is go on and win it BRENDA!!!!

Nope sorry i don't, (IMHO) if anything i think she's overrated. She has a good voice but i think all her songs sound the same. I also thought it wasn't one of her better moments when she argued with Chenai, she was 11 years older than her, personally i thought she should have let it go and retain her dignity.

i also think she is over rated, too many songs that are the same

I still like Brenda and prefer her to Maria, but I do think she is getting over-confident now.

She needs to sing different songs, and the one she is singing on Saturday isn't going to do her any favours. I love Heartbreaker but Brenda didn't sound anywhere near as good as Dionne Warwick I'm afraid. Brenda is a very good singer but I think this week is going to be her worst so far.

No i love Brenda, she is under rated! She shoul win, she has perosnality, voice etc unlike a lot of the others who dont have personality!

Don't think so far she's been under or over-rated, she's had positive comments which were deserved.

The common concern appears to be if she's a one trick pony who can only do loud and powerful. Seemed to be re-inforced by the clip of Heartbreaker on 24/7 where she seemed to be on mega-shout mode, showing the vocal subtlety of a wounded elephant. More Derek Warwick than Dionne Warwick. If she carries on in the same vain she's definitely headed for the over-rated category.

If the real question was 'Did Maria deserve better feedback last week' I'd say no, I thought it was a really uninspired and uninspiring performance.

They're both good, I'm not sure yet whether either is good enough

Well the 1 i will give u (Tho i hate to cos i love brenda and i am a great fan) is that yes she has done very similar songs and hasn't shown much versitility even though she has shown an amazing vocal range.....However just cos she hasn't shown and done a different/genre/type ofsong etc. doesn't mean she wouldn't do it well so let's just hope she gets through this week so she could a different type of song yeh?? but IMVHO I don't think it is entirely her fault as she might not realise in this comp you must try different genres that is the job of Sharon (Who i love) Multi-coloured beard man etc. etc. So i think she CAN do it but hasn't yet!! Any comments?

Well......of the three professional backing singers I would say that Brenda is the "least jaded". The other 2 look a bit mechanical to me - ie I can't see any trace of the x factor. The problem is that I can't see Brenda as a major star (after winning the contest). She could make a very pleasant album but what is there to get excited about?More and more, I am seeing the contest in a way that Andy Warhol would have - 15 minutes of fame. I think it is all about entertainment for all of us - right now. Fantastic Saturday night tv and not a great deal more. It is very hard to be a credible artist after singing covers for 12 weeks. Will Young managed it but I don't expect it to happen every year.

Perhaps your right but doesn't the whole world know that these shows are always looking for versatility. Her singing coach is very funny looking although i think Billy Connelly(sp) beat him to the originality of it.

Interesting point this. If it really was JUST about the Saturday show, for the 12 weeks or however long including auditions, would it be such great TV? If you didn't think your favourite was in with a chance of an album, recording contract, career, whatever, would you be so interested?

Could that be why voting is down? Any number of threads have asked "where are they now?" about former winners, so if we don't believe in the dream, what's left? You're right - all that's left is the show. Enjoy it while we can.

Back to the topic - no I don't think Brenda is particularly underrated. I think the judges have given her a fair critique and she's done some good numbers, admittedly a bit samey. I also think she's starting to believe in herself a bit more now (they all are, really, and why not? They've made the final eight) which some people interpret as arrogance but I see as just a natural progression. Everyone knows I like Brenda, but I'm beginning to think Journey South have a better chance of long-term success, purely because they are a bit different and more versatile.

I'm not sure I'd trust the taste of a woman who married Ozzy Osbourne and a man who thinks that a multi-coloured beard with eyeliner is a good look but there you go...

I've actually had Brenda in my top three every week so far but I'm starting to have a few doubts. So far I could see myself paying to see her in a big musical or even buying a dance-orientated single if it was the right number but I couldn't see myself buying a whole album.

You say she may not realise that she needs to try different genres but I'm certain she does, she's by far the most experienced in the music industry, The fact she hasn't tried anything slower and quieter makes me wonder if she's actually up to it.

Heartbreaker's original vocals by Dionne Warwick were pretty smooth and subtle, I really don't think the song's an all-out belter. So there's scope even in that song to show another side if (big if) she's capable of reining herself in.

Well the "better personality and better likeability factor" are definitely subjective! Not that I have a problem with Brenda, but I haven't really warmed to her either. I'd definitely say she's the most consistent singer, but I am more than a bit bored of her shouting - she really kills her performances by overdoing everything.

So I'd say in some ways maybe she's overrated, but I can't see her winning or having a successful career either.

Its all about image - she hasnt found it yet - get her in the TINA TURNER mode and this lady will find her real feet....long frocks and beads in her hair aint gonna fix it ....she is a classy act with lots of sex appeal....she is not getting the best songs or clothing - I think this lady is ACE gets my vote...think raunchy not mumsy and she'll break out for sure....

Isn't the biggest criuse liner named 'The World'?

So Brenda can have 'The World' at her feet.

Have to admit that Brenda does sound like a cruise singer. Most of them seem to like that shouty singing style.

Brenda is streets ahead of Jane McDonald imho-I really hope she will be 1st or at least 2nd in the final. I believe she could sing the phone book and make it sound good .She will miss out on the teeny - boopers vote though- they will go to Shayne.

Jane McDonald's a pretty sassy lady!!!
What's wrong with being a cruise ship performer anyway? Ms McDonald's done alright out of it hasn't she?!

I cannot see this lady selling albums as you would have an album of overdone yelled out songs.. which is all she has done so far and it is boring now, I even think she will take a smooth classic song and belt it out again this week as well. She has not got Tina Turner's class so sorry cannot see her in that mould either. Cruise ship, yes that is about the limitation of where I see her in a years time, and they earn fairly good money.

And I have to say I am not a teeny bopper and I like Shayne as do many older people so I think that was a bit off by the person who thinks only the tweenies are voting for Shayne, but my vote is going to the ones who have class, something different and who can write their own stuff, they can take a song and sing it their own way.. with no yelling all the way through.. Journey South....

I do not see Brenda making it for 4 more weeks in this competition as it happens (in fact it could be even less)

I'm not sure the fact that an act writes songs is relevant to this competition. The X Factor is a test of their singing abilities (and perhaps 'performing' abilities). They are not asked to - indeed they would not be allowed to - sing their own songs. Besides, the fact that someone says they write their own songs is no proof that they have any talent in that area. For future success in the music business, of course, somngwriting talent is a huge bonus, but that's a separate matter.
